Trent Thornton left Saturday’s game with an apparent injury against the Cubs.
This was scary. Thornton looked exhausted after issuing a walk to Ian Happ in the eighth inning, and nearly stumbled over and had to be visited by an EMT during the visit. He’s been replaced by Casey Legumina. The guess is that this is heat exhaustion, but more details should be provided shortly.

Yankees sent OF Marco Luciano outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Luciano was designated for assignment at the end of January, and finally, no one claimed him. The former top prospect will need to be added to the 40-man roster if the Yankees deem him worthy of an MLB spot at any point.
SF Giants' Baer 'proud' of Bay Area hosting SB LX
Just beyond Oracle Park, San Francisco Giants President Larry Baer sits down with Dan Patrick ahead of Super Bowl LX, where they discuss the state of modern stadiums, what he values about the city, and much more.
  • LAD Center Fielder #22
Dodgers claimed OF Michael Siani off waivers from the Yankees.
Are the Dodgers just bored? Siani was designated for assignment by Los Angeles and claimed by the Yankees a little over a week ago, and now they’ve decided they want him back, after all. To make room for Siani, the team designated Andy Ibáñez for assignment three weeks after they signed him for $1.2 million. Baseball is weird.
  • LAD Infield #77
Dodgers designated INF Andy Ibáñez for assignment.
That was quick. Ibáñez had just signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract in the middle of January, and now he is off the 40-man roster two weeks before pitchers and catchers report. It’s possible someone could make a waiver claim, but there’s just as good of chance he’ll hit free agency — again — in a few days.
  • FA 1st Baseman #41
Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic reports that the Diamondbacks have an agreement with free agent first baseman Carlos Santana.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Santana will make $2 million, and that the deal is pending a physical. Santana hit .219/.308/.325 with 11 homers and seven steals in his time with the Guardians and Cubs in 2025. The 39-year-old will see playing time assuredly, but could be part of a first base/DH platoon with Pavin Smith and Tyler Locklear
  • BAL Pitcher #38
Kyle Bradish won his arbitration hearing against the Orioles and will make $3.55 million in 2026.
Bradish defeated the Orioles’ offer of $2.875 million. The right-hander forged a 47/10 K/BB over 32 innings across six starts after returning from his elbow injury. He’ll pitch near the top of the Baltimore rotation to open the 2026 season.
  • FA 1st Baseman #41
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Diamondbacks and Carlos Santana are “progressiong toward a deal.”
Interest between the two teams was reported over the weekend, but it seems that the two sides are coming closer to an agreement. Santana hit just .219/.308/.325 with 11 homers, 54 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 474 plate appearances between the Guardians and Cubs in 2025. If this deal does come to fruition, he’ll be given a chance to battle Pavin Smith and Adrian Del Castillo for starting reps at either first base or designated hitter.
  • HOU Infield #15
Astros signed 3B Isaac Paredes to a one-year, $9.35 million deal to avoid an arbitration hearing.
Isaac Paredes had filed at $9.95 million in arbitration, with the Astros submitting an $8.75 million figure, so this is a nice middle ground. The contract also has a 2027 club option for $13.35 million. That will continue to make Paredes a hot commodity on the trade market this offseason.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #37
Twins claimed RHP Jackson Kowar off waivers from the Mariners.
Kowar was designated for assignment last week to make room for Jhonny Pereda. The former first-round pick back in 2018 posted a 4.24 ERA and 15/7 K/BB ratio over 17 innings out of Seattle’s bullpen last season in his first year back from Tommy John. It’s not a bad gamble for the Twins.
  • MIA Outfield #10
Marlins designated OF Victor Mesa Jr. for assignment.
The Marlins needed a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Garret Acton. Mesa Jr. had a decent season at Triple-A, hitting .286/.352/.460 with seven home runs and four steals in 210 plate appearances, but he has slashed just .188/.297.344 in his 38 MLB plate appearances, and the Marlins have added outfield depth this offseason.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #54
Marlins claimed RHP Garrett Acton off waivers from the Rockies.
Acton was designated for assignment back on January 22nd, so it’s unclear why this move is just happening now. The Rockies needed to clear room to sign Willi Castro, and Acton had earlier been claimed off waivers from the Rays after pitching to a 3.68 ERA and a 71/27 K/BB in 58 2/3 innings for Triple-A Durham last season. He has a chance to win a job in the Marlins bullpen.
