Kevin Gausman allowed two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Angels.
He struck out nine and walked three on the day in what was a relatively inconsistent start. Gausman was able to find the command of his splitter again and registered 12 whiffs on his 37 splitters thrown. However, he continues to struggle to miss bats with his four-seamer, which allowed 16 foul balls, and his slider posted just a 15 percent zone rate. This version of Gausman is fine, and you certainly love the strikeouts, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t nervous about starting him in Sacramento against the Athletics next week.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25

Byron Buxton is absent from the Twins’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Blue Jays.
The 32-year-old outfielder has been struggling at the plate in the early going — hitting .182/.258/.273 with zero homers, one RBI and a 17/5 K/BB ratio in his first 62 plate appearances. Perhaps a day off to clear his head will do him some good. James Outman will start in his place in center field and will bat ninth against Max Scherzer and the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
'No one can touch' Miller right now
James Schiano outlines just how impressive Mason Miller has been for the Padres.
  • SF 2nd Baseman #1
Luis Arraez (wrist) was held out of the Giants’ starting lineup for Sunday’s battle against the Orioles.
Arraez was pulled from Saturday’s game after he was inadvertently kicked in the wrist by Dylan Beavers who was running from first base to second base in the fourth inning. He’s considered day-to-day and shouldn’t require any sort of extended absence.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman #4
Ketel Marte is not in the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Sunday’s battle against the Phillies.
It looks to be nothing more than a routine breather for the 32-year-old infielder. Marte is off to a slow start offensively this season, slashing .197/.258/.328 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and zero stolen bases in his first 66 plate appearances while playing every inning of the team’s first 15 games. Ildemaro Vargas will start in his place at second base and hit leadoff for the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
  • AZ Catcher #14
Gabriel Moreno (back) remains out of the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Phillies.
The expectation had been that Moreno would be placed on the injured list on Sunday, and while that’s still possible, it has not happened yet. James McCann will start in his place behind the dish and will bat seventh for the Snakes on Sunday against Phillies’ right-hander Andrew Painter.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #68
Rays optioned LHP Joe Rock to Triple-A Durham.
Rock was up to add a fresh arm to the bullpen for a couple of days, though he didn’t wind up appearing in a ballgame. He’ll continue to function as extra pitching depth for the Rays at the Triple-A level.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #57
Rays activated RHP Drew Rasmussen from the family medical emergency list.
As expected, Rasmussen will return from paternity leave to make his start in Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees. Joe Rock was optioned back to Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. That means Shane McClanahan will now start on Tuesday and will be lined up to make two starts next week.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn (leg) remains out of the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Red Sox.
Winn was removed from Friday’s game after being hit by a pitch just below his right knee. He sat out Saturday’s game as a precautionary measure and it sounds like he needs at least another day before he’ll be ready to return to action. The encouraging news for fantasy managers is that it doesn’t sound like he’ll require a trip to the injured list. Thomas Saggese will take his place at shortstop once again on Sunday and will bat eighth against Brayan Bello and the Red Sox.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #3
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts confirmed that closer Edwin Díaz was unavailable for Saturday’s game against the Rangers and that the club is monitoring the right-hander’s velocity.
Díaz has exhibited decreased velocity early in the season — including while giving up three runs in a blown save against the Rangers on Friday night. They’ll see how he’s feeling on Sunday before making a determination on his status, but it’s possible that the club ends up taking an extremely cautious approach and sits him down for a while to make sure that he gets right. Alex Vesia picked up a save in his absence on Saturday.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #58
Cody Bolton will start for the Astros on Sunday afternoon against the Mariners.
The Astros are dealing with a plethora of injuries in their rotation at the moment and need all the help that they can get, so it sounds like Bolton will have an opportunity to stick around if he pitches well. He allowed just two runs over 4 1/3 innings in a spot start against the Rockies on Monday.
  • CWS 2nd Baseman
Noah Phalen of Sox Showdown reports that the White Sox plan to promote Sam Antonacci from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Tuesday’s contest against the Rays.
Antonacci has been seeing time in the outfield at the Triple-A level and could potentially step right into an everyday role there for the White Sox. The 23-year-old has hit .317/.509/.488 with two homers, six RBI, four stolen bases and a remarkable 6/14 K/BB ratio through his first 12 games this season. He’ll immediately make for an intriguing addition in deeper mixed leagues.
