Ryan Burr was removed from Wednesday’s game against the White Sox with a right shoulder injury.

Burr will undergo an MRI later this week in Toronto to determine the extent of the injury. It feels like a virtual lock that he’ll wind up back on the injured list. The 31-year-old was lifted from his second appearance of the season after recording only two outs. He missed the first three months of the year with shoulder inflammation.

Cardinals designated RHP Chris Roycroft for assignment.

It was a double whammy for Roycroft on Thursday as he was optioned to Triple-A Memphis and then removed from the club’s 40-man roster to accommodate the promotion of Max Rajcic. Roycroft has struggled to a 15.19 ERA and 3.94 WHIP over 5 1/3 innings in seven appearances with the Cardinals this season. There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Cardinals.

Phillies announced Adolis García (shoulder) will undergo surgery and is officially done for the season.

García’s recovery is projected to take 6-8 months, so he should be ready for spring training. He’ll be a free agent this offseason and will likely only find platoon roles waiting for him after the .195/.270/.329 batting line he put up with the Phillies in 259 plate appearances this season.

Sam Antonacci is not in Chicago’s starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the Yankees.

With LHP Ryan Weathers going, the White Sox will rest Antonacci in favor of fellow LHB Tristan Peters. Antonacci is in danger of being platooned if the White Sox find the right mix after getting off to a .111/.238/.111 start against left-handers in his first 36 at-bats. Still, he’s young enough that Chicago should probably keep giving him more chances.

Phillies purchased the contract of RHP Bryse Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Wilson has a 6.29 ERA in 54.1 innings for Lehigh Valley, but with Andrew Painter sent down, the Phillies needed someone to cover innings as (at least) a bulk reliever. Wilson had an upward mobility clause. He had a 6.65 ERA in 20 appearances (five starts) with the White Sox last season and should remain well off fantasy baseball radars.

Phillies recalled RHP Seth Johnson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Johnson has a 1.33 ERA in 24 appearances (27 innings) with the IronPigs this year, striking out 40. The Phillies will try to see if they can find that version of him in Philadelphia instead of the version with a 7.36 ERA in three appearances in the bigs so far this year.

Phillies optioned LHP Tanner Banks to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Banks had a 5.86 ERA in 26 appearances and had allowed an eye-popping 40 hits to go along with 13 walks for a 1.91 WHIP. The 34-year-old still has option years left and will try to get it together with the IronPigs.

Reds sent RHP Pierce Johnson on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Louisville.

Johnson has been out since late May, losing a chance to vie in the Emilio Pagán-absence-fueled closer-by-committee for the Reds. He has a 3.27 ERA in 22 innings so far in the bigs and his return would be good news for the Reds.

Cardinals selected the contract of RHP Max Rajcic from Triple-A Memphis.

Whenever he makes an appearance, it’ll be his MLB debut. Rajcic had a 2.88 ERA in 40 2/3 innings for Memphis, striking out 46 and allowing just 31 hits. He’ll likely get a shot to stick as (at worst) a low-leverage reliever.

Reds selected the contract of C Will Banfield from Triple-A Louisville; optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.

This is likely a transaction to keep Banfield from exercising an upward mobility clause. The gist of it is that he’ll take P.J. Higgins place on the 40-man roster and both players will remain at Louisville. Banfield signed with the Reds in December and the 26-year-old has a .281/.337/.439 in 189 plate appearances with the Bats this season.
