Salvador Perez blasted a pair of two-run homers on Monday, powering the Royals to a 12-4 blowout victory over the Cubs.
Perez launched a two-run homer off Cubs reliever Ben Brown in the fourth inning and added another against veteran Chris Flexen in the eighth, marking his third multi-homer game of the season — all since June 17. The 35-year-old veteran backstop shook off a glacially slow start to the year by catching fire over his last 30 games, hitting .297 (33-for-111) with 11 homers and 26 RBI during that span. He’s 10 round-trippers shy of 300 for his career with just over two months left in the season.

Rays claimed OF Victor Mesa Jr. off waivers from the Marlins.
The 24-year-old hit .286/.352/.460 with seven home runs and four steals in 210 plate appearances at Triple-A last season, but struggled in his brief MLB debut. The Rays will now take a chance on the athletic outfielder.
SF Giants' Baer 'proud' of Bay Area hosting SB LX
Just beyond Oracle Park, San Francisco Giants President Larry Baer sits down with Dan Patrick ahead of Super Bowl LX, where they discuss the state of modern stadiums, what he values about the city, and much more.
  • BOS Shortstop #71
Red Sox claimed INF Tsung-Che Cheng off waivers from the Nationals.
The Red Sox are loading up on infield depth over the last few days, but the team, and fans, probably hope that none of them have to play a meaningful role for the team in 2026. Cheng hit .207/.305/.267 slash line with one home run and 18 stolen bases in 107 Triple-A games last season with the Pirates organization. He has speed and can play mutliple positions on the field, but the 24-year-old is likely ticketed for Triple-A, no matter where he ends up.
  • LAD Pitcher #43
Dodgers designated LHP Anthony Banda for assignment.
The Dodgers needed a roster spot for Ben Rortvedt, so they will hope that Banda’s $1.65 million contract prevents anybody from claiming him on waivers. Of course, that gamble didn’t pay off with Rortvedt earlier in the offseason. Banda posted a 3.18 ERA in 65 innings for Los Angeles last season.
  • LAA Pitcher
Angels designated RHP Kaleb Ort for assignment.
Ort was just claimed off waivers from the Yankees last week, but he will now head back to waivers after the Angels signed Brent Suter. Ort had a 4.89 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and a 49/27 K/BB ratio across 46 innings out of the Astros’ bullpen in 2025.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #31
Angels signed LHP Brent Suter to a one-year, $1.25 million deal.
The move was announced on Thursday and is now official. Suter had his worst season ever in 2025, but he’s posted a 3.57 ERA in 597 1/3 MLB innings and should provide solid middle relief for the Angels, perhaps filling the bullpen role Reid Detmers left behind in his bid to join the rotation.
  • CWS Catcher #3
White Sox sent C Drew Romo outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
Romo was designated for assignment last week, but cleared waivers and will be sent to Triple-A. The former catcher of the future for the Rockies has now been designated for assignment three times this offseason and will try to impress the White Sox in spring training so they decide to keep him around.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #58
White Sox sent RHP Jairo Iriarte outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
The 24-year-old was designated for assignment last week, but cleared waivers and will remain with the White Sox. He will also get an invitation to spring training, but he’s a long shot to make the team after pitching to a 7.24 ERA, 1.96 WHIP, and a 48/37 K/BB ratio over 46 innings in Triple-A last year.
  • ATH Shortstop #12
Athletics designated INF Max Schuemann for assignment
The A’s needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for recently claimed Andy Ibanez, so Schuemann was let go. The 28-year-old can play all over the diamond, but he has hit just .212/.306/.297 in 672 MLB plate appearances. His minor league track record is better, and his defensive versatility might win him some fans in another organization.
  • LAD Catcher #47
Dodgers claimed C Ben Rortvedt off waivers from the Reds.
Rortvedt signed a $1.25 million contract with the Dodfers before he was put on waivers back in November. They probably thought the contract would keep anybody from claiming him, but the Reds did. Then the Reds designated Rortvedt for assignment when they signed Eugenio Suarez, so Rortvedt is now back with the Dodgers.
  • ATL 2nd Baseman #6
Braves signed INF Kyle Farmer to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Farmer hit just .227/.280/.365 with eight home runs in 300 plate appearances for the Rockies in 2025 before his $4 million team option was declined. He has been a useful bench piece for a few years since he can play anywhere on the field and is a .247 career hitter. He’ll try to win a spot on Atlanta’s bench.
