Joe Boyle was charged with six runs — four earned — in 3 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Yankees.
Boyle started strong tonight, but after two scoreless innings, he walked two and gave up a three-run homer to Cody Bellinger in the third. The fourth featured two singles and an error before he was pulled with one out and one run in, and Mike Montgomery came in and allowed both inherited runners to score. Boyle struck out six and allowed only three hard-hit balls. The control issues reared their ugly head tonight, but he’s made significant improvement in that area this year, and it’s worth sticking with him for now.
