Joe Boyle threw five shutout innings while allowing three hits in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Sunday.
This was a nice bounce-back effort for Boyle, who was hit around in his last start against the Yankees. Boyle struck out two and walked two while throwing 43 of his 71 pitches for strikes and inducing a 13 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW. Despite only being at 71 pitches, Boyle was pulled before he could face the middle of the order for a third time, which is a good indication of how the Rays plan to use him for the remainder of the season. He will likely go five or six innings, but that will hopefully come with more strikeouts than we saw against a good Dodgers offense. He’s worth a start next week in Seattle against the Mariners.
