Nationals RHP prospect Cade Cavalli will be called up to start on Wednesday against the Athletics.
Cavalli was the Nationals’ first-round pick in 2020 and made his MLB debut back in 2022 after posting a 3.71 ERA and 104/39 K/BB ratio in 97 innings at Triple-A that year. Unfortunately, Cavalli had Tommy John surgery in March of 2023 and then experienced a setback in early 2024 with a “dead arm” phase. He also experienced some fatigue early this season during his rehab assignment, so his recovery has not exactly been a streamlined process. The 26-year-old remains an intriguing pitching prospect with a fastball that sat 96 mph in Triple-A and a curve that misses plenty of bats. Given his long layoff and his inconsistent results in the minors this year, he doesn’t need to be added in fantasy leagues right now, but he could become relevant if his command begins to improve.
