The 27-year-old right-hander was recalled prior to Tuesday’s contest against the Mariners with JP Sears heading back to Triple-A. He’ll likely add bullpen depth for a couple of days until Randy Vasquez returns to take Sears’ spot in the Padres’ rotation on Sunday against the Orioles.

Goodman doubled and scored a run in the fifth inning. He then came through in a clutch spot for the Rockies in the eighth. With the game tied and two outs in the bottom of the inning, he took Clayton Beeter deep for a solo homer to put Colorado ahead and in line for the win. The 26-year-old backstop is having an outstanding season, hitting .257/.326/.565 with 31 homers, 64 runs scored, 57 RBI, and five steals across 393 plate appearances.

Moniak singled in the second inning to put the Rockies on the board before scoring on a double. The hit was just his tenth against a left-handed pitcher this season. He then took Miles Mikolas deep for a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the sixth to give the Rockies the lead. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .280/.325/.569 with 16 homers, 34 runs scored, and 42 RBI across 243 plate appearances.

Abrams got the scoring started with a two-run blast off Michael Lorenzen in the first inning. He did it again in his next at-bat, taking Lorenzen deep for his second two-run homer. Abrams later drew a walk in the seventh to reach base for a third time. The 25-year-old shortstop is up to 24 homers, 61 runs scored, 76 RBI, and 15 steals while slashing .279/.354/.538 across 418 plate appearances.

Machado is still hitting just .204. but he’s now tied for 11th in the majors in homers and for 28th with 59 RBI. Even if this winds up being the worst season of his career, he’ll probably get to 30 homers an eighth time and maybe to 100 RBI for a fifth time.

Buehler allowed just two hits, which allowed him to work around five walks. He’s issued 17 free passes over 22 innings in his last five starts, three of which were rather ugly. Still, even though he has a 5.23 ERA and isn’t pitching very deep into games, the Padres are an impressive 13-7 in his starts this season. He’s due to face the Marlins on Sunday.

López’s velocity was pretty good — he averaged 95.3 mph with his fastball and an especially high 85.9 mph with his slider — but he allowed two homers, seven other hits and three walks. This is two poor outings in a row, so his rotation status might again be in jeopardy, especially with the deadline coming up. The loss leaves him 4-3 with a 3.95 ERA. That seems fine, of course, but he had a 3.74 ERA the first time he was pulled from the rotation in April. As is, he’s slated to face the Orioles on Sunday.

Ritchie surrendered homers to Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. in the 8-3 loss. He’ll be unavailable for a few days after throwing 68 pitches tonight, so it seems pretty likely that he’ll be the pitcher sent down to make room for Martín Pérez on Wednesday.

Tatis has three homers in four games and is now up to eight for the year after going his first 55 games without one. He finished tonight with a .752 OPS, his highest mark after any game this season.

Albies isn’t exactly struggling this month, but he has fanned 21 times in just 17 games, which is incredibly unusual. In fact, it’s the most times he’s struck out in a month since Sept. 2021. He struck out just nine times in 23 games in June. Of course, Albies really hasn’t been hot at any point since April; he’s batting .234/.289/.381 since May 1.

Romano took the mound in the top of the ninth, tasked with closing out the game after the Rockies took a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth. He shut the door on the Nats, striking out two batters in a clean inning to convert his seventh save of the season.
