Though he walked four, AJ Blubaugh shut out the Angels for four innings on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Blubaugh hasn’t gotten more than 10 outs in any of his last seven appearances, so the Astros weren’t going to let him go too long tonight. Maybe he could have snuck away with a win if he had been more efficient, but it wasn’t meant to be. Blubaugh finishes the season 3-1 with a 1.69 ERA and a 35/11 K/BB in 32 innings over the course of three starts and eight relief appearances. The Astros will probably want to hold him in reserve at the start of next season if they can avoid injuries next spring, but they have not had much luck in that department lately.

Guardians recalled RHP Franco Aleman from Triple-A Columbus.

Aleman has done a nice job in 18 appearances with the Guardians this season, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 22/8 K/BB ratio across 18 2/3 innings of work. He’ll provide manager Stephen Vogt with a fresh arm to deploy in the middle innings. Austin Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Red Sox recalled OF Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester.

With Ceddanne Rafaela (quad) landing on the injured list on Sunday, Eaton will join the Red Sox to add some outfield depth. The 29-year-old outfielder has hit just .125/.282/.281 with one homer and five RBI in 39 plate appearances at the MLB level this season.

Red Sox placed OF Ceddanne Rafaela on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to September 3, with a right quadriceps strain.

Rafaela had missed the team’s previous three games with the injury and wasn’t improving as quickly as the Red Sox had hoped, so they’ll sit him down and make sure that the injury heals properly and that he’s ready for the stretch run. Nate Eaton was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to take his place on the active roster.

Pirates recalled INF/OF Ronny Simon from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Simon has impressed in his limited action with the Pirates this season, slashing .290/.333/.323 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base in 34 plate appearances. He’ll add depth and versatility to the Pirates’ bench.

Pirates optioned INF Nick Yorke to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Yorke has had a miserable time at the plate with the Pirates this season, slashing a cringe-inducing .212/.284/.279 with one home run and 12 RBI in 117 plate appearances. He’ll continue to serve as extra infield depth at the Triple-A level. Ronny Simon was recalled in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Mets recalled RHP Tobias Myers from Triple-A Syracuse.

Myers has been hit hard during his time with the Mets this season, compiling a 6.26 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 33/13 K/BB ratio across 46 frames. He’ll give them another bullpen option that’s capable of working multiple innings and can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Mets optioned LHP Jefry Yan to Triple-A Syracuse.

The 30-year-old southpaw struggled in his 13 appearances with the Mets, registering a 5.68 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and a 17/11 K/BB ratio across his 12 2/3 innings of work. He’ll continue to serve as extra bullpen depth at the Triple-A level. Tobias Myers was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Reds designated LHP Sam Moll for assignment.

With Graham Ashcraft returning from the injured list on Sunday, the Reds needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate him and Moll wound up being the odd man out. The 34-year-old southpaw had posted a 4.79 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 56/30 K/BB ratio over 65 appearances with the Reds this season. With so many teams in the market for bullpen help, he could attract interest on waivers.

Reds activated RHP Graham Ashcraft from the 60-day injured list.

The 28-year-old righty had been shelved since May due to a UCL sprain. Before landing on the injured list, Ashcraft had compiled a 3.33 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 32/16 K/BB ratio across 27 innings in his first 26 appearances. His return should provide a nice boost to the Reds’ bullpen.

Ceddanne Rafaela (quad) remains out of the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles.

It’s the fourth consecutive contest that Rafaela has missed due to a lingering quad injury. He’s still hopeful that he’ll be able to avoid a trip to the injured list, but if this lingers into next week the Red Sox may be forced to make a move. Eli White will once again start in his place in center field and will bat ninth against O’s right-hander Kyle Bradish.
