Maeda will return to Japan after spending the last ten seasons in the majors. He was list in the Yankees’ organization, and he’s struggled over the past few years after being a solid mid-rotation — at times better — option in his career. The 37-year-old could potentially return to the majors with a good campaign or two in Japan, but it seems pretty unlikely at this stage.

Lile capped off a five-run uprising in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single that chased Kevin Gausman from the ballgame. With his two-hit attack, the 24-year-old outfielder is now hitting .218/.290/.372 with 10 homers, 27 RBI and eight stolen bases in his first 293 plate appearances with the Nationals on the season.

Cavalli also walked two batters in the ballgame. He retired the first 15 batters he faced until Dansby Swanson worked him for a walk to open the sixth inning. Cavalli’s no-hit bid was then spoiled by a two-out single from Michael Busch in the seventh. The 27-year-old right-hander got 14 whiffs on 103 pitches on the afternoon, posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 151/41 K/BB ratio (136 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Rangers in Arlington.

Busch spoiled Cade Cavalli’s no-hit bid with a two-out single in the seventh inning. That would be the only hit that the Cubs’ offense would get in the brutal offensive performance. For the season, the 28-year-old slugger is hitting .245/.353/.388 with 14 homers and 63 RBI in 544 plate appearances on the season.

On the plus side for fantasy managers, Gausman struck out seven batters in the ballgame while issuing only one base on balls. He kept the Nationals off the board through the first three frames until Dylan Crews smacked an RBI double in the fourth inning. They then piled on with five more runs in the fifth — including a three-run blast by Abimelec Ortiz. Gausman got 12 swings and misses on 93 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll look to improve upon his underwhelming 4.53 ERA and 1.27 WHIP when he squares off against the White Sox on Tuesday.

Wilson connected on a 2-2 cutter from Max Fried in the second inning, clubbing a 396-foot (104.1-mph EV) solo shot that gave the M’s an early 1-0 lead. That would be the extent of the scoring for both teams in the ballgame. Wilson finished the afternoon 1-for-2 plus a walk and is now hitting .204/.297/.357 with four homers and 11 RBI in 111 plate appearances at the MLB level this season.

Muñoz looked exceptional in this one, needing just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to retire the Yankees in order — including strikeouts of George Lombard Jr. and Jazz Chisholm Jr. He has now converted 21 of his first 27 save chances on the season while registering a 3.71 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 69/17 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings.

Gilbert scattered four hits on the afternoon while allowing only one base on balls. The Mariners provided him with just one run of support in this one and he did his part to make sure that it was enough to hold up. The 29-year-old hurler generated 15 swings and misses on 95 offerings on the day — seven on his splitter — while registering a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this brilliant outing as he carries a 3.28 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 152/33 K/BB ratio (145 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s showdown against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

As a team, the Yankees were only able to muster four total hits against Logan Gilbert and company, with García accounting for half of them — and the lone extra-base hit — himself. The 26-year-old infielder has seen his production slow a bit since the move to the Yankees, hitting .258/.303/.452 with one homer and two RBI over 33 plate appearances in his first eight games with the Bombers.

The 32-year-old southpaw struck out four batters on the day while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo blast off the bat of Weston Wilson in the second inning which proved to be the only scoring for either side in the contest. Fried got seven whiffs on 88 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll bring a stellar 2.81 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 79/27 K/BB ratio (86 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s tilt against the Orioles in Baltimore.
