Shohei Ohtani was named the 2025 National League Silver Slugger Award winner at DH on Thursday night.
The American League winners will be announced on Friday night. Here is the complete list of winners for the senior circuit: Hunter Goodman (C), Pete Alonso (1B), Ketel Marte (2B), Manny Machado (3B), Geraldo Perdomo (SS), Juan Soto (OF), Corbin Carroll (OF), Kyle Tucker (OF), Ohtani (DH) and Alec Burleson (UTIL). Ohtani has claimed the award in back-to-back seasons since joining the Dodgers and four times overall in his career. Soto takes home the honor in his Mets debut, giving him six in eight seasons. At this rate, he might need an entire room just to display them all by the time his 15-year megadeal is through. Alonso, Perdomo, Goodman, Carroll and Burleson are all first-time winners.
  • HOU Catcher #21

Yainer Diaz is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Red Sox.
It’s a routine day off for a catcher with a day game after a night game, but since Yordan Alvarez is entrenched at the designated hitter, there is nowhere else for Diaz to play. That’s an ongoing battle that he will face all season. Christian Vázquez will start behind the dish and bat ninth.
McGonigle, Murakami seize early control of AL ROY
Trysta Krick and Vaughn Dalzell break down why Kevin McGonigle and Munetaka Murakami are the two best bets to win AL Rookie of the Year to open the MLB season.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña is not in the lineup for the Astros against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
So far this season, Peña has yet to start back-to-back games. The Astros are likely just being cautious with his fractured finger, but it remains to be seen when they will view him as a full-time player. Carlos Correa will shift to shortstop on Wednesday, which will allow Isaac Paredes to play third base and bat third against Garrett Crochet.
  • BAL Right Fielder #9
Tyler O’Neill is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Rangers.
O’Neill is making over $16 million this season, so the Orioles will certainly want to give him a chance to earn that contract, but he’s also 2-for-14 to start the season with four strikeouts and two walks. He’ll continue to get some chances, but he’ll need to start producing to hold off Dylan Beavers, who is starting in left field and batting sixth today.
  • PIT 2nd Baseman #5
Brandon Lowe is not in the lineup against the Reds on Wednesday.
The Reds are throwing a left-hander, but Lowe has started against the first three left-handers the Pirates have faced. That being said, he’s also 0-for-9 with two strikeouts, so maybe giving him a few days off against left-handed pitching isn’t the worst idea. Nick Gonzales will shift over to second base with Nick Yorke playing third and batting sixth.
  • PIT Center Fielder #15
Oneil Cruz is starting in center field and batting fifth against the Reds on Wednesday.
It’s hard to bench a player when he goes 3-for-3 with two home runs, but considering yesterday was against a left-handed starter too, it makes sense for the Pirates to continue to put Cruz in the lineup against all pitchers until he starts to cool down. If the 27-year-old can go back to being just serviceable against left-handed pitching, he could be in for a big season.
  • MIA Catcher #50
Agustín Ramírez is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the White Sox.
It’s a routine day off for the catcher with a day game after a night game. Ramírez has gotten off to a slow start this season, going 3-for-16 with four walks and four strikeouts. Liam Hicks will start at catcher with Graham Pauley sliding to first base and Javier Sanoja at third base.
  • MIA Left Fielder #18
Griffin Conine (illness) is not in the lineup on Wednesday against the White Sox.
Conine went 2-for-4 with a home run on Tuesday, but he’s not feeling well today and will not be in the lineup. Heriberto Hernandez will take his place in left field and bat seventh.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #46
Quinn Priester (thoracic outlet syndrome) will head to Phoenix to begin facing hitters this week.
Priester was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome towards the end of spring training after the Brewers sought multiple opinions to figure out why his wrist wasn’t feeling better after a long off-season. While Priester has avoided surgery for now, his return to the Brewers rotation should still be considered questionable until he is able to throw at full strength without any symptoms.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #50
Orion Kerkering (hamstring) is scheduled to make back-to-back rehab appearances with Triple-A Lehigh Valley,
The second of those back-to-back appearances is set to come on Wednesday. If his hamstring responds well to the back to back outings, then it’s not out of the question that he returns to the Phillies’ bullpen this weekend.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
Zack Wheeler (thoracic outlet surgery) will start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.
It will be Wheeler‘s second rehab start, and he is expected to throw between 50 and 55 pitches. He will then make one more rehab start in Triple-A next week before potentially returning to the Phillies rotation. Obviously, all this depends on how he feels and looks in his next two starts.
