Nolan McLean is slated to pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

Clay Holmes, too. While it’s exciting news, we don’t really love this idea for McLean, since it could add to the injury risk. Primarily a position player at Oklahoma State, McLean has seen his innings count jump from 33 in 2023 (the year he was drafted) to 110 in 2024 and to 162 last season. There haven’t been any red flags yet, but having the 24-year-old fully amped and facing, say, a loaded Dominican Republic lineup in March might not be the best thing.

Trey Yesavage (shoulder) is scheduled to start a minor league game on Wednesday.

The Blue Jays are taking every possible precaution while building up the 22-year-old hurler as he has battled a shoulder impingement this spring. He’s going to require a lengthy ramp up and the team has yet to give any sort of timeline on when he may be able to join the Jays’ rotation.

Astros’ skipper Joe Espada told reporters on Sunday that he has yet to rule out Jeremy Peña (finger) for Opening Day.

The 28-year-old took batting practice on the field once again on Sunday without issue and participated in fielding drills. He has made quick work in his recovery from a fractured ring finger and it’s starting to sound increasingly likely that he’ll be in the Astros’ lineup when the regular season begins.

Mike Burrows

HOU Starting Pitcher #50

Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Sunday that Mike Burrows will pitch the second game of the regular season against the Angels.

He’ll follow Hunter Brown who draws the Opening Day assignment for the Astros. The rest of the rotation has yet to be announced, though Tatsuya Imai will certainly be in there somewhere. Burrows had a brilliant spring, allowing just three runs while posting a 17/6 K/BB ratio over 18 innings of work.

Kyle Stowers

MIA Left Fielder #28

Kyle Stowers will open the season on the 15-day injured list after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

Stowers is expected to be shelved for 3-4 weeks. He had battled hamstring issues early on during spring training and then aggravated it again during Friday’s Grapefruit League contest against the Astros. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect to have him in lineups until the end of April.

Esteury Ruiz

MIA Left Fielder #3

Esteury Ruiz has been diagnosed with a high-grade left oblique strain and is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

The 27-year-old speedster will open the season on the injured list and isn’t likely to be an option for the Marlins until the end of May. He suffered the injury on an awkward swing during Friday’s Grapefruit League contest. It’s a tough break, as he was trending towards cracking the team’s Opening Day roster.

Zach Dezenzo

HOU Left Fielder #9

Zach Dezenzo (elbow) will stay at the team’s spring training facility in West Palm Beach to continue his rehab.

The 25-year-old outfielder is still unable to hit without issue and it sounds like he’s going to open the season on the 15-day injured list. Dezenzo battled a right elbow sprain at the end of the 2025 season and had a “flare up” during the World Baseball Classic, though an MRI revealed no structural damage. No word on any sort of timeline when he may be ready to return.

Didier Fuentes

ATL Starting Pitcher #72

Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that the Braves’ plan for 20-year-old sensation Didier Fuentes is to have him open the season in the team’s bullpen for the first couple of weeks before moving back to Triple-A Gwinnett to work as a starter.

Well that’s certainly a buzzkill. Fantasy managers have been clamoring for Fuentes to get an opportunity to pitch in the Braves’ rotation, but it sounds like that’s going to have to wait a while. It’ll likely take an injury to one of the club’s current five starters for the electric 20-year-old hurler to get his shot.

Peter Lambert

HOU Starting Pitcher #20

Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Sunday that right-hander Peter Lambert has been informed that he will not make the team’s Opening Day roster.

The 28-year-old has an opt-out clause in his contract that he can exercise if he doesn’t want to open the season at Triple-A Sugar Land. Expect him to make a decision on that in the coming days.

Taylor Trammell

HOU Left Fielder #26
Astros reassigned OF Taylor Trammell, INF/OF Cavan Biggio and C Carlos Perez to minor league camp.

Of the three Trammell is the biggest surprise of the group as he had a solid spring, slashing .257/.381/.457 with a homer, seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases. He’ll start out the season as extra depth at Triple-A Sugar Land and will certainly get an opportunity with the big league club at some point in 2026.

Zach McCambley

MIA Starting Pitcher #39

Phillies returned RHP Zack McCambley to the Marlins.

The Rule 5 pick did not crack the Phillies’ Opening Day roster, so he has been returned to the organization that he was plucked from back in December. McCambley actually showed out well during Grapefruit League play, posting a 1.23 ERA, 1.50 WHIP with a troublesome 4/6 K/BB ratio over 7 1/3 innings in his eight appearances.
