Konnor Pilkington has elected free agency.
Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Rochester, the 28-year-old left-hander will explore opportunities on the open market instead. Pilkington posted a 4.45 ERA 1.28 WHIP and a 34/17 K/BB ratio across 28 1/3 innings out of the Nationals’ bullpen in 2025. He should have no problem landing on his feet elsewhere.

Mark Vientos doubled and singled Wednesday as Team Nicaragua outlasted the Cardinals 2-1 in an exhibition.
It’s rather odd seeing Vientos, the one active major leaguer in Nicaragua’s lineup, batting fifth behind Ismael Munguia and Emanuel Trujillo. Still, that all worked out today. Munguia, who hit .246/.313/.342 for the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate last season, went 3-for-3 with a walk, and Trujillo, who has never played in the U.S., homered to plate both of Nicaragua’s runs.
Will Acuna challenge Ohtani for 2026 NL MVP?
While Shohei Ohtani is expected to retain his NL MVP title this season, Drew Dinsick and Jay Croucher explain why Ronald Acuna Jr. and Juan Soto could make the race tighter than expected.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #32
Matthew Liberatore yielded two runs in 3 1/3 innings and struck out five Wednesday versus Nicaragua.
Liberatore’s fastball velocity last time out was up one mph from last year. Today, it started in that range, but quickly dropped off, leaving him with a 93.4 mph average that was 0.5 mph under last year’s average. His spin rates were all a bit down as well. Let’s see how he bounces back next time out.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #35
Richard Fitts pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts in relief Wednesday against Nicaragua.
Fitts wasn’t quite as strong today as he was last time out, but his 96.6-mph average with his fastball was still a little higher than last year’s average. He should be right in the mix for the fifth spot in the Cardinals’ rotation.
  • STL Catcher #48
Iván Herrera went 2-for-2 with a steal against Nicaragua on Wednesday.
Herrera caught today for the second time this spring. It’s not totally clear yet on whether the Cardinals see him catching once or twice per week or potentially starting over Pedro Pagés the majority of the time. Either way, he’ll be in the lineup as a DH when he’s not catching.
  • BOS Center Fielder #3
Ceddanne Rafaela went 3-for-4 with a homer Wednesday as The Netherlands beat the Rays 11-8.
The Netherlands won both of their exhibitions against MLB teams, with Rafaela acting as a driving force; he has two homers and two doubles the last two days. The team’s other standout today was Didi Gregorius, who went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
  • TB Center Fielder #14
Chandler Simpson walked in three of his four plate appearances from the leadoff spot and stole two bases Wednesday against The Netherlands.
Simpson’s one ball in play was a soft liner to left that actually had a .980 xBA, but that doesn’t account for how shallow Simpson gets played and Ray-Patrick Didder turned it into an out. Still, it was a second straight good day for Simpson as he tries to secure a starting spot in Tampa Bay’s outfield.
  • ATL Center Fielder #23
Michael Harris II doubled twice and knocked in two runs Wednesday as the Braves topped Colombia 9-1.
Today’s doubles won’t count in the statistics, but Harris has now put nine balls into play this spring at an average of 99 mph. He’s also struck out just once and walked three times, and even if the quality of pitching he’s faced isn’t great, that’s still nice to see from a guy who had a 128/16 K/BB last season.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #50
Bryce Miller (side) progressed to playing catch on Wednesday.
Miller was shut down last week following a PRP injection to address left side inflammation but has already been cleared to resume a throwing program. Barring any further setbacks, there’s a chance he’s ready for Seattle’s season opener, but that’s not a lock at this juncture.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #27
Aaron Nola pitched three scoreless innings and struck out four in the Phillies’ 5-3 loss to Team Canada on Wednesday.
Abraham Toro’s three-run double was the big blow for Canada. The Phillies’ offensive highlight was Alec Bohm homering off James Paxton in the fourth. Nola’s velocity is already a tad better than his 2025 norms, and he threw 28 of his 37 pitches for strikes today. He’ll next pitch for Team Italy against Mexico.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #59
Jhoan Duran worked a perfect inning against Team Canada in his spring debut Wednesday.
Duran’s velocity was down about three mph from last year, but that’s not much different than his first couple of outings from last spring. He struck out one and got a couple of groundouts today.
