Zack Wheeler (shoulder) played catch from a distance of 120 feet on Monday as he continues to progress in his recovery from thoracic outlet surgery.

The Phillies are taking a cautious approach with the 35-year-old hurler and the expectation is that he’ll open the season on the injured list. It’s unclear how much time into the regular season he may miss though and if we don’t wind up seeing him at all in Grapefruit League action, it’ll be tough for fantasy managers to know what to expect from Wheeler to open the 2026 season.

Fairbanks picked up the save in back-to-back games, so the 32-year-old will get a day of rest for the finale against Colorado. Anthony Bender or Calvin Faucher would likely get the ninth inning if a save opportunity is presented.

Angels manager Kurt Suzuki told reporters that Walbert Ureña will return to starting after being optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Ureña was optioned Sunday after a disastrous relief appearance against the Astros on Saturday. The 22-year-old will be a potential starting option if he pitches well in Salt Lake, but can be safely ignored in redraft leagues for now.

Jake Fraley has been scratched from Sunday’s lineup due to soreness in his right shoulder.

Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters that Fraley picked up some soreness after attempting to make a diving catch during Saturday’s game against St. Louis. Cash also suggested that the injury isn’t believed to be serious, so for now, consider Fraley day-to-day.

Carlos Estévez is dealing with a right ankle contusion and is currently wearing a walking boot.

Estévez was rocked for six runs and blew Saturday’s save against Atlanta, and it’s very plausible that the ankle injury didn’t help. Royals manager Matt Quatraro hinted that Estévez likely wouldn’t be available, but if he is, also suggested that he would be used in a “lower-leverage” situation. Estévez’s velocity was down all spring, and fantasy managers need to pay close attention to this situation. Lucas Erceg would likely be next man up for closing games.

Mederos gets the boot from the 40-man roster with Shaun Anderson having his contract selected. The 24-year-old could see interest on the waiver wire, but if he goes unclaimed, he’ll likely remain in Triple-A Salt Lake.

Angels selected the contract of RHP Shaun Anderson from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Anderson gets the nod after the Angels’ bullpen gave up 11 runs in the loss to the Astros on Saturday. He’ll likely be a multi-inning option if Jack Kochanowicz isn’t able to go work deep Sunday.
