Pirates optioned INF Jack Brannigan and RHP Ryan Harbin to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Brannigan suffered a broken nose and other injuries to his face after he was struck by a batted ball in a Grapefruit League contest against the Phillies in late February. Harbin is also shelved for the time being due to a teres major strain. This was a procedural move more than anything just to get them out of big league camp as they start to whittle the roster down.

Justin Verlander (hip) faced hitters on Saturday in a live batting practice session.
The general assumption is that Verlander will need at least one minor league rehab outing before returning to Detroit’s rotation since he’s been on the shelf with hip inflammation since early April. There should be a definitive update on his potential return timeline at some point later this weekend or early next week.
Cubs would be 'in shambles' without Imanaga
James Schiano discusses Shota Imanaga's performance against the Cincinnati Reds and how the pitcher has shaken off a rough end to the 2025 season.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #85
Dodgers claimed LHP Charlie Barnes off waivers from the Cubs.
Barnes provides Los Angeles with some additional left-handed relief depth after being jettisoned from Chicago’s roster earlier this week. The 30-year-old southpaw made one relief appearance for the Cubs last month.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25
Dodgers transferred 2B/OF Tommy Edman to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move doesn’t change Edman’s return timetable as he continues to work his way back from offseason ankle surgery. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said earlier this week that they’re going to pull back on his ramp-up process after he experienced some soreness recently. The versatile 31-year-old is unlikely to make his season debut until some point in June.
  • PHI Center Fielder #91
Justin Crawford is on the bench for Saturday’s showdown against the Rockies.
Crawford grabs a seat on the bench following his strongest performance of the season on Friday when he went 3-for-4 with his first career home run and two RBI. The 22-year-old rookie center fielder has supplied a strong batting average, as expected due to his speed, but he’s run a lot less than fantasy managers were hoping with just three thefts through 34 games. Brandon Marsh is in center field with Edmundo Sosa heading out to left field to face Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland on Saturday night.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #23
Blaze Alexander (calf) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Athletics.
Alexander told reporters his calf is feeling much better after undergoing treatment and he expects to be available off the bench this weekend. The versatile 26-year-old was scratched from Friday’s lineup with calf tightness. It’ll be Jeremiah Jackson at second base with Coby Mayo at the hot corner on Saturday evening in his place.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #9
Xavier Edwards is hitting leadoff for the fourth time in the last five games on Saturday against the Nationals.
Edwards, who slugged his third round-tripper of the season during Friday’s series opener, seems to be Miami’s preferred top-of-the-order option with Otto Lopez, Liam Hicks and Kyle Stowers rounding out the heart of the order. The 26-year-old’s speed makes him an interesting leadoff option and should translate into a few extra stolen base opportunities moving forward.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #29
Pete Fairbanks (hand) is scheduled to face hitters on Sunday in a live batting practice session.
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough told reporters the expectation is that Fairbanks will be ready to return to Miami’s bullpen next week when they head out on a road trip to face the Twins and Rays. The 32-year-old closer has been working his way back after landing on the shelf with nerve irritation in his pitching hand back on April 28. There should be a final decision on his status following Sunday’s throwing session. His return would provide a massive lift for the Marlins by solidifying their closing situation.
  • BOS Catcher #75
Carlos Narváez (hand) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Rays.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters that Narváez is fine after being hit by a pitch during Friday’s contest against the Rays. However, he’s going to get some extra time off to recover with Mickey Gasper behind the plate in this one.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #35
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters Garrett Crochet (shoulder) felt “great” after playing catch on Friday.
Crochet has resumed flat-ground throwing and should be ready to progress to bullpen sessions next week. The 26-year-old fantasy ace hit the injured list with shoulder inflammation back on April 29. The positive news is that an MRI didn’t reveal any structural damage and he figures to ramp up his throwing program shortly. There’s a chance he’s back in a couple weeks after a couple minor league rehab starts.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #56
Rays selected the contract of RHP Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Durham.
Brooks, who was pitching in the independent Mexican League just a few weeks ago, joins Tampa Bay’s relief corps as a swingman-type option shortly after signing a minor league contract. The 36-year-old hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2024 when he made five appearances for the Athletics. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats.
