Brandon Woodruff (lat) threw four simulated innings at the Brewers complex on Friday.

The veteran was encouraged by being able to throw four “ups,” and he felt like this stuff performed close to how he wanted to, but he admitted that his status for Opening Day is still “up in the air.” His “main goal is the end of the year,” so he and the Brewers will not push for him to be on the mound to start the season if he’s not clearly ready to do so. With Quinn Priester (nerve issue) likely starting the season on the IL, that could mean there are three rotation spots for Kyle Harrison, Logan Henderson (elbow), Robert Gasser, Brandon Sproat, DL Hall, Aaron Ashby, and Shane Drohan to fight for. Woodruff also mentioned that he may need to pitch on six days’ rest throughout the season, which means the team may need to use spot starters throughout the year to keep him on schedule.

Grant Holmes allowed three runs in five innings and got the win in the Braves’ 8-5 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.

Holmes gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out two. He improved to 6-4 with the win. Holmes kept the Rangers off the scoreboard for the first four innings before allowing three runs in the fifth inning. He left with a 4-3 lead and the Braves eventually won 8-5. Holmes has a 3.70 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Orioles on the road next weekend.

Shota Imanaga didn’t give up a run in his seven innings of work to lead the Cubs to a 10-1 rout of the Twins on Sunday.

Imanaga didn’t have to be at his best with Zebby Matthews giving up a couple handful of runs, but he certainly was close to it. The southpaw scattered six hits and a walk, and he was able to strike out four. He generated nine swings-and-misses, and just seven balls hit off Imanaga registered as hard contact. Imanaga will take a 3.91 ERA into a scheduled start Saturday against the Pirates.

Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Mets on Sunday.

Bohm’s home run was his 12th of the season. He hit a solo shot off A.J. Minter in the sixth inning, which accounted for the Phillies’ lone run in a 6-1 loss to the Mets. Bohm has already eclipsed his home run total from last year (11), but his .640 OPS is on pace to be the worst of his career.

Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a win for the Cubs on Sunday over the Twins.

Bregman made it 2-0 Cubs in the first inning off a completely ineffective Zebby Matthews. That’s the 10th homer for Bregman in his first season with the Cubs, and he’s now driven in 43 runs. He also drew a walk, and it improves his slash to a still-disappointing .239/.336/.362.

Francisco Lindor went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double, three RBI and two walks against the Phillies on Sunday.

Lindor’s home run was his sixth of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Alan Rangel in the first inning. Lindor also had a single and a double, leaving him a triple shy of the cycle. He added two walks, reaching base five times. Sunday was undoubtedly a bright spot in what’s been a season to forget for Lindor. Injuries have limited him to 43 games and he’s hitting .220 with a .694 OPS and 15 RBI.

Nico Hoerner tripled and drove in four runs in a blowout win over the Twins on Sunday.

Hoerner remains hot, and his triple scored three and doubled the Cubs’ lead to 6-0 in the third frame. It comes a day after Hoerner singled four times with an RBI, and it’s helped improve his slash to .245/.314/.341. Hoerner has certainly gone on hot runs before, and it’s possible we’re seeing the beginning of one to start the second half of the 2026 campaign.

Zebby Matthews was rocked for 10 runs — eight earned — in three innings while picking up a loss to the Cubs on Sunday.

Yikes. Two of the runs were unearned, but all of this was deserved. Matthews gave up nine hits and three walks, and while he did fan four hitters, he was in consistent trouble and obviously didn’t escape it very often. The right-hander’s ERA ballooned to 5.40 with this outing, and unfortunately, it’s a reminder that the talented 26-year-old still has some work to do before he can be counted on as a consistent fantasy option. He’s set to face the A’s next weekend with a chance to rebound.

Alan Rangel allowed five runs in four innings and took the loss against the Mets on Sunday.

Rangel gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out four. He fell to 0-3 with the loss. Rangel gave up two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run to Francisco Lindor. He allowed three more runs in the second inning during a rally that included four hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Rangel has a 5.40 ERA heading into his start against the Yankees at home next weekend. He’s not worth rostering in most fantasy leagues.
