Dodgers optioned OF Michael Siani and RHP Paul Gervase to Triple-A Oklahoma City; reassigned LHP Cole Irvin, RHP Ryder Ryan, INF Noah Miller, OFs Zyhir Hope, Zach Ehrhard and James Tibbs III to minor league camp.

Siani is the most prominent inclusion among the big leaguers in this latest batch of cuts from Dodgers camp. The 26-year-old defensive specialist figures to be up with Los Angeles at some point in a bench role. Hope is the biggest prospect in this group as he ranks right up there with Eduardo Quintero, Josue De Paula and Mike Sirota as one of the organization’s top prospects.

Rangers LHP Marco Gonzales elected free agency.

Gonzalez will hit the open market instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Round Rock. The soft-tossing 34-year-old journeyman passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment over the weekend.

Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong boosted his MVP case after hitting two home runs against the White Sox. The pair of homers made Crow-Armstrong the 10th MLB player to record back-to-back 30-30 seasons.

Matt Weyrich from the Baltimore Sun reported that Félix Bautista is projected to begin a rehab assignment within a week.

It’s been a long road back for Bautista since undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff last year. There have been reports of him throwing going all the way back to March, but he’s ramped up his progression with consistent bullpen sessions since June and has been facing live hitters for the last two weeks. The quality of his stuff and velocity during this rehab assignment will tell us a lot about the role we can expect him to fill for the Orioles when he eventually returns.

Royals recalled RHP Carlos Duran from Triple-A Omaha.

Duran was acquired by the Royals from the Dodgers at the trade deadline for Kris Bubic and is set to join their big league bullpen. His fastball sits in the upper-90s, he has a great slider, and mixes in a sinker, but has consistently struggled with his command.

Royals optioned RHP Lucas Erceg to Triple-A Omaha.

It’s been quite a fall from grace for Erceg, who still leads the Royals with 12 saves despite being removed from the closer’s role two months ago after blowing four saves in five chances. His fastball velocity has fallen in each of the last two seasons and he’ll head to Triple-A Omaha with an ugly 6.23 ERA, 31 strikeouts, and 29 walks across 43 1/3 innings.

Pirates optioned RHP Isaac Mattson to Triple-A Indianapolis.

A regular member of the Pirates’ bullpen churn, this is the fourth time Mattson has been sent down to Triple-A since May 20th. Just wait another week or two and it’s likely he comes back up when they need a fresh arm.

Pirates recalled RHP Antwone Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis.

This is the fourth time the Pirates have brought Kelly back up from Triple-A since June 12th. He’s thrown 7 1/3 innings across three big league appearances with a 6.14 ERA, four strikeouts, and four walks.

Yankees RHP Luis Gil (shoulder) was activated from the injured list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Gil has been out for over three months with right shoulder inflammation and only threw three total innings between two rehab appearances with High-A Hudson Valley. Perhaps the Yankees are preparing him for a role in their bullpen as the playoffs near. Regardless, don’t expect him to contribute in a major way any time soon.

Blue Jays INF Lenyn Sosa has been reinstated from the 60-day IL, cleared outright assignment waivers, and sent to Triple-A Buffalo.

Sosa has been out since late May with a wrist injury and upon being activated, cleared outright assignment waivers and was sent to Triple-A Buffalo. That means he’s off the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster and is unlikely to contribute to the big league team again this season given that news

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Griffin Jax (elbow) threw a live batting practice on Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

This phenomenal and unexpectedly good news for Jax who went on the injured list for elbow discomfort nine days ago and then sought a second opinion from Dr. Keith Meister regarding it. He deemed surgery wouldn’t be necessary and now Jax is back on a mound just one week later. Kevin Cash told Topkin that Jax “looked good” and was able to use all of his pitches. The plan as of now is for him to make a rehab start on Sunday, meaning he could be back with the Rays as soon as next week.

The Rays slid Chandler Simpson back up to the lead-off spot for their game on Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Simpson regularly occupied the lead-off spot for the Rays from mid-April through early June, but hasn’t hit there since June 5th. Instead, he’s mostly hit fifth or sixth over the last few weeks. With him back atop the order, regular lead-off hitter Yandy Díaz shifted down to fourth and Liam Hicks down one spot to fifth.
