Royals recalled RHP Mitch Spence from Triple-A Omaha.
Spence threw five innings in his first start in Omaha, allowing just one run in five innings despite striking out one. It’s possible he’s a bulk reliever or starter over the weekend if the Royals want to shift some pitchers around in the wake of Cole Ragans leaving yesterday’s start early.

José Berríos (elbow) allowed five runs over four innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo.
Berríos threw 70 pitches in his latest rehab outing and could potentially return to Toronto’s rotation mix next week. He struck out two, issued a pair of walks and also served up two homers. The 31-year-old veteran is working his way back from a stress fracture in his elbow and figures to be ready in the near future, if he’s not activated next week.
What happens with Castillo once Miller returns?
Eric Samulski unpacks Seattle Mariners' starting pitcher, Luis Castillo, and his early season struggles. He discuss what could happen with Castillo when Bryce Miller returns from an injury.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #45
Tatsuya Imai (arm) was charged with five runs over two innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Corpus Christi.
Imai struck out two and walked three batters, needing 59 pitches (31 strikes) to record six outs in his first rehab start. He gave up six hits, including a home run. The 27-year-old has been on the shelf with arm fatigue since mid-April. He’s also indicated that he’s struggling to adjust to life in the majors both on and off the field in his stateside debut. All indications from the Astros are that they are going to take it extremely slowly and not rush him back.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #48
Dodgers acquired INF Tyler Fitzgerald from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.
It’s an extremely unusual trade considering these two teams met in last year’s epic World Series. However, the Dodgers are extremely familiar with Fitzgerald’s work from his time with the division-rival Giants. The 28-year-old is capable of handling several defensive spots on the diamond and bolsters the Dodgers organizational depth while Tommy Edman (ankle) is on the shelf.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #96
Dodgers transferred RHP Landon Knack to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move frees up a spot on Los Angeles’ 40-man roster to acquire infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from the Blue Jays. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf recovering from an intercostal strain back in late March.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #12
Casey Mize left Tuesday’s start against the Braves with a trainer.
Mize left the contest after fielding a routine ground out by Drake Baldwin. He appeared to be dealing with some leg discomfort earlier in the frame. He was charged with two runs over 2 1/3 innings before exiting. There should be an update on his status shortly.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #57
Angel Chivilli (shoulder) will be shut down from throwing for three weeks.
Chivilli hit the injured list with shoulder discomfort over the weekend and is going to be shut down until at least mid-May before he’s cleared to resume throwing. He’s likely going to be out until some point in May, barring any setbacks.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #37
Rangers signed RHP Kyle Funkhouser to a minor league contract.
Funkhouser heads to Triple-A Round Rock as emergency organizational depth for the Rangers. The well-traveled 32-year-old righty was one of the better young pitchers in Detroit’s system last decade but ended up making just 70 appearances over a two-year span from 2020-2021 due to shoulder issues.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #67
Angels signed RHP Justin Dunn to a minor league contract.
As Ben Kenobi once said, now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. Dunn was universally regarded as one of the premier young pitching prospects in baseball roughly a decade ago when the Mets made him the 19th-overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. He never quite lived up to his lofty potential, mostly due to persistent shoulder injuries. He’ll get another shot in affiliated ball with the Angels at Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • TB 3rd Baseman #13
Junior Caminero was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Guardians with a right jaw contusion.
Caminero appears to have avoided serious injury after a scary-looking incident when he fouled a ball off home plate that ricocheted directly into his right jaw. He managed to finish the at-bat, despite being in some apparent discomfort, before leaving the contest with a trainer. He presumably underwent imaging that didn’t reveal any fractures in his jaw, which is a massive relief. The 22-year-old fantasy superstar is day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale in Cleveland.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #39
White Sox re-signed RHP Lucas Sims to a minor league contract.
Sims reunites with Chicago on a new deal after passing through waivers unclaimed and electing free agency earlier this week. The 31-year-old reliever posted a serviceable 4.50 ERA across 10 innings over nine appearances with the White Sox earlier this month.
