Fernando Tatis Jr. is batting fifth on Tuesday against the Giants.
It’s the lowest Tatis has hit since his rookie campaign back in 2019. The 27-year-old has shown some signs of life recently, but he’s off to an abysmal start, hitting .252/.324/.301 with five extra-base hits, including zero home runs, 13 RBI and nine steals in 33 games. The complete lack of extra-base power is completely perplexing since a quick glance under the hood at his underlying batted ball metrics suggests he’s still making plenty of hard contact.
