McKinstry landed on the 10-day injured list on April 17, so he’ll be eligible to return whenever the Tigers decide he’s ready. The veteran utilityman was hitting .209/.261/.326 in his first 46 plate appearances of the season before the injury.

It snaps a nice run of starts for Matthews as he’d been 5-0 with a 2.90 ERA in August while striking out 24 and allowing just three homers. He’ll look to get back on track next week against the Tigers.

He struck out two and allowed just three hits, lowering his season ERA to 4.00 on the dot. Fedde has only allowed two runs in four games since August 13, though two of those were as a follower. It’s not like we’re advocating you to fire him up next week against the Pirates, but he’s been more serviceable than you might have thought.

Tong will get the promotion to face the Fish in his first MLB outing since June 3. The talented right-hander has pitched well in the minors as of late, but doesn’t have much MLB success. It would be a high-risk, medium-high reward to use him in fantasy for this outing.

Baz gave up four hits, walked two and struck out six. He fell to 5-15 with the loss. The only run Baz allowed came on a solo home run by the blazing hot Mickey Gasper. He’s lost six of his last seven starts while only allowing more than three runs in a start once in that span. Baz’ 3.91 ERA indicates he’s pitched better than his 15 losses. He’s lined up to face the Guardians at home next week.

Not much came easy for McLean in this one after the first couple of innings despite a solid final line. By the time he took the mound for the top of the third, the Mets had taken a 7-0 lead and things suddenly got a bit hairy. Over the next three frames, he walked three batters, gave up six hits, and was fortunate to only have two runs on his ledger. Then, he surprisingly came back out for the sixth inning already at 94 pitches despite those struggles and ended his outing with three quick outs. When he struck out Christian Koss to end his night, McLean let out a massive roar to his dugout. In the end, he tossed a career-high 105 pitches, has completed at least six innings in 13 of his last 14 starts, and left this start with a 3.06 ERA as he makes a late season charge for the Rookie of the Year award. He’s scheduled to face the Marlins in Miami next time out, but could be pushed back to face the Yankees in the Bronx as the Mets are potentially moving some parts around in their rotation.

Alvarez needed a game like this as he’s been mired in a dreadful slump. He’d gone nearly a month without a home run before these two and had just four since the All-Star break with a paltry .187 batting average and strikeout rate that was approaching 40%. He could really use a strong end of the season to build some positive momentum heading into 2027.

Devers is scalding hot right now. Two more doubles here give him 34 on the season – tied for most in the league – and this home run was his 33rd. It was a towering blast too traveling deep into the upper deck in right field. Shame on anybody who thought he wouldn’t be a highly productive player any more as he now has an .846 OPS that has risen sharply over the past few weeks.

This was a catastrophic start for the young lefty we call ‘Tugboat’. First, Mark Vientos took him deep for a three-run home run in the first inning. Then, he struggled to regain his composure afterwards and didn’t get much help from his teammates either. In a five-batter sequence during the second inning, he let up solo home run, walked a batter, balked, had his shortstop boot a ground ball, didn’t get to first quickly enough to finish off a double play, saw his catcher lose a ball on the transfer during a stolen base attempt, and then gave up a three-run home run to finish it off. Suddenly, seven runs were home and he’d already thrown 51 pitches. He lasted for one more scoreless inning after that, but the damage was already done. He’s scheduled to face the Cardinals at home next time out.
