Payton Tolle allowed two runs (none earned) in seven innings and got the win in the Red Sox’ 5-4 victory over the Tigers on Monday.

Tolle gave up one hit, walked one and struck out eight. He improved to 1-1 with the win. The 23-year-old left-hander dominated the Tigers, who didn’t have a baserunner until Riley Greene’s double in the fifth inning, which was the only hit Tolle allowed. The Tigers didn’t score against Tolle until the sixth inning, when a hit batter, a walk and two errors led to two runs for Detroit. It’s unclear when Tolle might start again for the Red Sox with Sonny Gray (hamstring) returning soon.

The 31-year-old righty has posted a respectable 4.24 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 39/24 K/BB ratio across 70 innings over 13 starts in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this season. He made one appearance for the Twins last year.

Royals transferred LHP Cole Ragans to the 60-day injured list.

Ragans will seek additional medical opinions on his injured elbow this week after experiencing a setback in his rehabilitation process. There should be more clarity on his next steps and potential return timeline soon, but it does not appear he’s close to rejoining Kansas City’s rotation. The 28-year-old lefty has been on the injured list with an elbow impingement since early May.

Erik Sabrowski

CLE Relief Pitcher #62

Erik Sabrowski (elbow) struck out two and recorded two outs on Wednesday in a minor league rehab appearance for Double-A Akron.

Sabrowski threw 20 pitches in his first rehab outing as he works his way back from elbow inflammation that put him on the injured list back in late May. The 28-year-old southpaw is one of the most underrated pitchers in the game, posting a sparkling 1.43 ERA and 100/38 K/BB ratio across 63 innings since 2024.

SD Relief Pitcher #52

Padres sent RHP Ty Adcock outright to Triple-A El Paso.

Adcock passed through waivers unclaimed following his removal from San Diego’s roster last weekend. The 29-year-old didn’t end up making an appearance for the Padres after signing a one-year split contract last offseason.

Tyler Heineman

Angels acquired C Tyler Heineman from the Blue Jays for cash.

Heineman heads to Los Angeles to back up starter Logan O’Hoppe following his removal from Toronto’s catching mix last week. The 34-year-old was clearly passed by rookie Brandon Valenzuela and lost hit spot with the Blue Jays once starter Alejandro Kirk returned from the injured list. He’s a strong defender, but doesn’t offer much at the plate anymore. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Aaron Civale

ATH Starting Pitcher #45

Athletics activated RHP Aaron Civale from the 15-day injured list.

Civale takes the ball against the Pirates in West Sacramento on Wednesday night following a three-week absence with a shoulder issue. The 31-year-old holds a serviceable 4.20 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 39/17 K/BB ratio across 55 2/3 innings over 11 starts this season. It’s a decent matchup right out of the chute, but it’s tough to trust any pitcher in the hitter’s paradise that is Sutter Health Park.

Athletics optioned RHP Luis Morales to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Morales heads back to the minors without making an appearance after being brought back by the Athletics earlier this week. The 23-year-old will return to pitching in shorter stints out of the bullpen in the minors. He has the stuff to pitch in high-leverage spots if he manages to harness his command.

Edward Cabrera

CHC Starting Pitcher #30

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Edward Cabrera (hand) is likely to make his next start.

Cabrera checked out fine after making an early exit from Tuesday’s start against the Rockies with a hand cramp. The 28-year-old will need to complete a bullpen session before he’s officially cleared to take the ball against the Mets on Monday in his next start.

Matthew Boyd

CHC Starting Pitcher #16

Matthew Boyd (knee, shoulder) will make a minor league rehab start on Saturday.

Boyd made it through a bullpen session earlier this week and has been cleared to make a rehab start this weekend. The 35-year-old southpaw’s return to Chicago’s rotation was scrapped last week due to shoulder soreness. He should make it back at some point in early July.

Randy Dobnak

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Royals are acquiring reliever Randy Dobnak from the Mariners.

It’s not exactly the blockbuster Passan bomb that baseball fans are desperately craving with the trade deadline roughly six weeks away. Dobnak heads to Kansas City after exercising the upward mobility clause in his minor league contract. The 31-year-old has posted a serviceable 4.24 ERA across 70 innings this season at the Triple-A level.
