Rasmussen wriggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and was able to cruise into the middle innings as Tampa Bay’s offense staked him to an eight-run advantage. He carried a shutout into the sixth before finally running into some trouble, which led to his removal following three consecutive hits to open the frame. He finished with five strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. It was a much-needed rebound performance after giving up 11 runs over 7 1/3 innings over his previous two starts earlier this month. He’ll wrap up a two-start week with a favorable home matchup against Cleveland’s low-scoring lineup on Sunday.

This was a forgettable outing for Gausman, as the Rays executed a death by a thousand paper cuts approach, piling up nine hits against him with only one going for extra bases. Jung didn’t look 100 percent while going from first-to-third on a third-inning single by Brandon Nimmo, which led to his early exit from the contest. It doesn’t sound like a potential injured list situation, but it might be too early to make that call. There should be some clarity on his status heading into Wednesday’s series finale.

Smith struck out one and didn’t allow a single baserunner en route to his 29th save of the season. That expands his league lead by four saves over Bryan Baker. It’s been quite a first season as a closer for Smith.

Arias had the two hardest-hit balls of the game with a 108 mph single in the fourth inning and a 111.1 mph single in the sixth. It’s been a good month for Arias, who is now 12-for-40 (.300) with two home runs, seven runs scored, four RBI, and three steals in 14 games. The problem is that it also comes with a 19/3 K/BB ratio. Arias has loud raw tools, but the plate approach will always make him risky in fantasy leagues.

Jeffers laced a 402-foot shot at 106.1 mph off the bat against Parker Messick in the first inning. It was Jeffers’ ninth home run and 32nd RBI of the season. The 29-year-old has been very productive when healthy this season, which is why he is continuing to attract plenty of attention on the trade market. If the Twins continue to fall out of the playoff race, Jeffers could be on a new team by August.

Messick struck out six and didn’t walk a batter while throwing 67 percent of his pitches for strikes but posting just a nine percent swinging strike rate. The left-hander pounded the zone with his fastballs, but his changeup failed to land in the zone or get many chases. Still, he was able to prevent much damage and probably could have gotten through six innings but was pulled with a runner on when he was at just 88 pitches. He’ll get a stiff test on Sunday against a Rays team that refuses to strike out.

Not ideal. Caglianone will undergo further evaluation, and likely imaging, to determine the severity of the injury after exiting Tuesday’s contest in Kansas City. The 21-year-old slugger appeared to injure himself on a diving catch attempt in the fifth inning. He finished 1-for-2 with a strikeout before departing. The Royals should have a more definitive update on his status prior to Wednesday’s series finale.

Jung was replaced by Nicky Lopez at the hot corner shortly after coming around to score following a third-inning single. He finished 1-for-2 at the plate. There should be an update on his status shortly.
