The 33-year-old outfielder was designated for assignment on Tuesday but passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to serve as extra outfield depth for the Mets. He’s slashing a ghastly .209/.286/.233 with a 31 percent strikeout rate over 49 plate appearances between the Mets and Marlins this season.

Fairbanks entered the game in the ninth inning to pick up the save, but after retiring the first two batters of the inning, the veteran righty would walk Jacob Young, who then stole second, and scored soon after on an RBI single by Daylen Lyle. Fairbanks would retire the next batter to end the inning and would pick up his fourth win of the season after Javier Sanoja drove in the winning run in the bottom of the frame. Friday marked the first blown save of the month for Fairbanks, who has otherwise been solid in August, posting a 1.80 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP over five frames.

Pasquantino smacked a one-out double off of Troy Melton in the fourth inning and scored the game’s first run on an error by Kevin McGonigle. He then led off the sixth inning with a majestic 420-foot (106.4-mph EV) solo shot that increased the Royals’ lead to 3-0. With his two-hit attack, the 28-year-old slugger is now slashing .247/.331/.381 with eight homers and 37 RBI in 357 plate appearances on the season.

Isbel tagged Tigers’ starter Troy Melton for a 387-foot (100.8-mph EV) solo shot to open the fifth inning, extending the Royals’ lead to 2-0. He then smacked a two-out RBI double off of Ty Madden in the eighth that pushed that advantage to 5-2. On the season, the 29-year-old outfielder is slashing an underwhelming .234/.283/.354 with just five long balls and 19 RBI in 231 plate appearances.

The former top prospect appears to have found a home at the back end of the Royals’ bullpen. He allowed a leadoff double to Javier Baez and a two-out walk to Kevin McGonigle but was able to avoid any damage. Pearson looks to be the favorite for saves in the Royals’ bullpen and should probably be rostered in all mixed leagues at this point.

The 27-year-old southpaw punched out two batters on the night. While the Tigers put traffic on the bases against him in four of his five innings, they never seriously threatened. Cameron got eight swings and misses on 85 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 20 percent. Now 8-8 on the season, he’ll try to further improve upon his 4.02 ERA and 1.21 WHIP (143 1/3 innings) when he does battle against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Thursday.

McGonigle smacked a two-out RBI double off of John Schrieber in the seventh inning that briefly pulled the Tigers to within a run at 3-2, but that would be as close as they would get. With his two-hit attack, the 22-year-old phenom is now slashing .284/.386/.424 with 13 homers, 53 RBI and 12 stolen bases over 559 plate appearances in his rookie campaign.

Melton struck out three batters in the ballgame while issuing three walks. The Royals scratched out an unearned run against him in the fourth inning, then Melton served up solo homers to Kyle Isbel in the fifth and Vinnie Pasquantino in the sixth. The 25-year-old righty got nine whiffs on 94 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of only 20 percent. He’ll look to get back in the win column as he carries a spectacular 1.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 76/28 K/BB ratio (90 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Rays.

Ruiz broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning when he hit a solo shot off of Marlins reliever Tyler Zuber to put the Nationals up 1-0. It was the eighth homer of the season for Ruiz and his first since July 10th, but the switch-hitting catcher has been solid at the plate as of late. Ruiz is slashing .364/.429/.455 in the month of August.

Sanoja singled in the eighth inning to tie the game at 1-1 and later came around to score on an RBI single by Otto Lopez to put the Marlins up 2-1. After the Nationals came back to tie it in the ninth inning, Sanoja would find himself up at the plate with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. He would hit an RBI single off Nationals reliever Clayton Beeter to secure the win for the Marlins and bring an end to their three-game skid. Sanoja has now hit safely in five straight games and is slashing .362/.393/.603 in the month of August.

Gusto was solid in this one, keeping the Nationals off the board over four frames despite allowing six runners to reach base. The five hits Gusto allowed on the night were all singles, and in his final inning of work, he worked himself out of a jam with two runners on and only one out. Gusto hasn’t pitched out of the fifth inning in any of his last three starts and won’t be on the fantasy radar for his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Red Sox.
