Tristan Peters went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the White Sox’s 6-2 defeat of the Twins on Thursday.
Peters wasn’t going to start today, but the White Sox revamped their lineup after lefty Kendry Rojas was scratched and righty Simeon Woods Richardson was named the starter, and Peters wound up with his second three-hit game as a major leaguer. He’s batting .274/.342/.385 with two homers and four steals in 153 plate appearances, so it doesn’t look like he’ll be the choice to be sent down when Austin Hays comes off the IL.

Padres designated RHP Ty Adcock for assignment.
The 29-year-old hurler gets bumped from the Padres’ 40-man roster to make room for Blake Hunt on Sunday. Adcock has made 11 appearances across three minor league levels this season, posting a 7.15 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and a 15/6 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings. There’s a decent chance that he slips through waivers unclaimed and continues to function as extra bullpen depth for the Padres.
Hernandez hammers a solo home run off Skenes
Marlins left fielder Heriberto Hernandez opens up the scoring for Miami, launching a home run off Paul Skenes for a 1-0 lead.
  • SD Catcher #12
Padres selected the contract of C Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso.
The 27-year-old backstop earns his first promotion to the big leagues after toiling in the minors for nine seasons. He has appeared in 15 games at the minor league level this season, slashing .289/.431/.533 with three homers, eight RBI and a 12/9 K/BB ratio over 58 plate appearances. He’ll add depth behind the plate with Freddy Fermin (concussion) on the injured list.
  • SD Catcher #54
Padres placed C Freddy Fermin on the 7-day concussion injured list.
Fermin was hit in the head by an errant warm-up toss from Yuki Matsui during Saturday’s game. He’ll need to pass through the concussion protocol before he’s eligible to return. Blake Hunt was promoted from Triple-A El Paso to take his place on the Padres’ active roster.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Royals.
Astros’ skipper Joe Espada confirmed there’s nothing physically wrong with Altuve, he just needed a breather. Brice Matthews will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh against Stephen Kolek and the Royals on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.
  • COL Shortstop #21
Rockies optioned INF Chad Stevens to Triple-A Albuquerque.
The Rockies needed to make a move to accommodate the return of Tyler Freeman (concussion) on Sunday and unfortunately for Stevens he wound up as the odd man out this time around. The 27-year-old infielder is a staggering 1-for-28 (.036) with a 13/5 K/BB ratio in 34 plate appearances for the Rockies this season.
  • COL Right Fielder #2
Rockies activated OF Tyler Freeman from the 7-day concussion injured list.
Freeman progressed through the concussion protocol after being drilled in the head by a 98-mph cutter from Jacob Misiorowski during last Saturday’s game. He’ll start in right field and bat second for the Rockies on Sunday against Athletics’ left-hander Jeffrey Springs.
  • COL Center Fielder #31
Jake McCarthy (illness) is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Sunday’s ballgame against the Athletics.
It could just be in part because the Rockies are facing a left-hander in Jeffrey Springs, but it’s the fifth consecutive game that McCarthy has missed due to illness. Sterlin Thompson will once again start in his place in left field and bat ninth for the Rockies on Sunday afternoon in West Sacramento.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn is not in the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Sunday’s tilt against the Twins in Minneapolis.
It’s the second straight Sunday that the 24-year-old infielder has gotten a breather after starting every other game during the week. JJ Wetherholt will slide over and cover shortstop while Bryan Torres draws a start at second base and will bat seventh against Twins’ right-hander Taj Bradley.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #43
Giants recalled RHP Tristan Beck from Triple-A Sacramento.
With Keaton Winn (elbow) landing on the injured list on Sunday there’s suddenly an opportunity available in the Giants’ bullpen. Beck has struggled in his limited chances with the big league club this season, posting a 9.00 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 3/2 K/BB ratio over eight innings in his six appearances.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #67
Giants placed RHP Keaton Winn on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 11, with a right elbow strain.
The 28-year-old righty was blasted for three runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning during his last outing against the Nationals on Monday and it sounds like the elbow issue may have been a factor. No word yet on how long he’ll be sidelined for. Tristan Beck was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move on Sunday.
