NBA DFS Plays Wednesday January 20

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

This article aims to highlight some of the best NBA DFS Plays at every position for your cash game lineups. Keep in mind that the following player write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, and sometimes injury/rest situations can alter the fantasy landscape. Monitoring our NBA News & Headlines Feed throughout the day will keep you in the loop while giving you the subsequent DFS consequences of each information piece.

We’ll take a look at the Wednesday 10-game Main slate starting at 7:00 ET.

POINT GUARD

Ja Morant – Memphis (at Portland) - DK: $7,300 / FD: $7,900 / Yahoo: $36

Ack, there are so many nice ways to play this slate, it’s very hard to settle on one player at each position. I’m taking Ja here for the salary savings he offers (lots of places to spend!) and the fantastic matchup. Damian Lillard should be great in this game too, but Memphis is one of the better defensive teams in the league and Portland has had trouble defending opposing point guards. Morant is basically right back to where he was before the injury, playing 34 MPG and putting up 40-plus fantasy points. This should be one of the closer and higher scoring games of the night, and I think this is the lowest we’ll see Morant’s salary for the foreseeable future (especially DK and FD).

Also Consider: Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Delon Wright, Dejounte Murray, Luka Doncic, Damian Lillard, Patrick Beverley

SHOOTING GUARD

Rodney Hood – Portland (vs. Memphis) - DK: $3,800 / FD: $5,000 / Yahoo: $10

Hood is a key part of my plan to fit the stars I want on this slate, and should be part of yours too, even if we differ on the exact ways to spend. He has been announced as a starter while CJ McCollum deals with a sprained foot. In his first effort in the new role, he scored 21 real points in 25 minutes. As we have seen in years past, Hood can be a DFS asset when given the opportunity and he should have little standing in his way to reach value at near minimum salaries across the sites.

Also Consider: Paul George, Victor Oladipo, Devin Booker, Fred VanVleet, Terrence Ross, Derrick Rose

SMALL FORWARD

Jaylen Brown – Boston (at Philadelphia) - DK: $8,700 / FD: $8,300 / Yahoo: $40 (SG)

If you are spending here, you have your pick. I’m electing to go with Brown in a fast-paced and competitive game with the 76ers. Though they are getting a few guys back, they are still without playmaker Jayson Tatum, and Brown has been the primary guy. He’s a strong bet for a double-double, but he fills the stat sheet nightly anyway. He has a great chance to rack up bonus points as the 76ers turn the ball over at the league’s third-highest rate. Brown has a respectable seven steals in his last five games, and though Philly is a good defensive team, they have given up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing wings.

Also Consider: Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jerami Grant, Kelly Oubre, Eric Gordon, De’Andre Hunter

POWER FORWARD

Chris Boucher – Toronto (vs. Miami) - DK: $7,300 / FD: $8,100 / Yahoo: $28 (C)

Boucher stood out to me as a PF value on DraftKings (along with Jerami Grant), but he’s also significantly cheaper than Bam Adebayo or Domantas Sabonis on FanDuel. His center eligibility on Yahoo is kind of a pain, but you can still use him in the utility slot there. Since January 8, Boucher is averaging about 45 fantasy points per game, posting over 20 real points in five of the six games and double-doubling in three of them. He has an incredible 19 blocks in that span and ranks third in the league in blocks. All it took was an extra six minutes per game (vs. the Raptors’ first four games).

Also Consider: Domantas Sabonis, Bam Adebayo (FD), Brandon Clarke, Draymond Green, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge

CENTER

Nikola Vucevic - Orlando (at Minnesota) - DK: $8,600 / FD: $9,900 / Yahoo: $41

Vucevic is tough to spend on in this slate, though he deserves the higher salary. He’s still cheaper than all the other stars on DraftKings, and I like him much more than Joel Embiid tonight (saves $1000 on DK, $8 on Yahoo, but Embiid is $100 less than Vuc on FD). Vucevic gets the league’s best center matchup (with or without Karl-Anthony Towns, but Towns is sidelined on the COVID protocol tonight) and should be a lock for around 50 fantasy points against the Timberwolves, who are fantasy’s second-best overall matchup too.

Also Consider: Andre Drummond, Clint Capela, Enes Kanter, Mason Plumlee, Gorgui Dieng

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Xavier Tillman (PF/C – MEM) has scored at least 25 fantasy points in each of his last three games, so while his starting role with Jonas Valanciunas out (COVID-19 protocol) is newly exciting, he has already been contributing in the Grizzlies’ frontcourt. I noted the favorable matchups above – Portland is the sixth-best center matchup – and will continue to try to draw from this game, especially for the value Tillman provides ($3500 DK, $4600 FD, $11 Yahoo).

Delon Wright (PG – DET) is a regular here, as he continues to be priced in a range that just works. He has been shooting terribly, and his last game was especially bad, but this is a nice get-back-on-track opportunity for him. The Hawks play fast, but aren’t a good defensive team, allowing the second-most fantasy points to opposing point guards. Going with Wright is a smart play on FanDuel or Yahoo, where Derrick Rose is much more expensive, but on DraftKings, with only a $300 salary difference, I’m taking Rose.

Eric Gordon (SG/SF – HOU) should get another start with John Wall sidelined. I like both Gordon and Victor Oladipo here, in a game I haven’t had a chance to mention yet, at home vs. the Suns. Gordon is only $5200 (FD), $5500 (DK), $16 (Yahoo), and played 34 minutes in the Rockets’ last game, where he posted 30ish fantasy points. There are Suns’ players I like in this one too, but Gordon should be the best value to be had.
