Cubs INF Pedro Ramírez is in the clubhouse on Friday with a locker.

The Cubs have not officially announced a move yet, but this is a pretty good indicator that Ramirez is up with the team this weekend. The switch-hitter slashed .312/.395/.547 with 9 HR and 40 RBI in Triple-A this season. He has spent most of the season playing second base and third base, but has been playing some left field of late. Until we know what the corresponding roster move is, it’s hard to know for sure how much Ramirez will play, but his talent is certainly intriguing.
Roman Anthony

BOS Left Fielder #19

Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said that Roman Anthony has a sprain in the ligament on the base of his ring finger.

There were previous reports that Anthony was dealing with a torn ligament, which is not the case. However, we now know that it’s not a wrist issue the 22-year-old is battling. He will need to wait for the inflammation in his finger to subside before he picks up a bat again. The good news is that this isn’t a major issue and shouldn’t impact his performance when he returns. The bad news is that the Red Sox are unlikely to rush the former top prospect in baseball, so it’s unclear when Anthony will return. We’d still assume sometime in early June.
Edwin Arroyo

CIN Shortstop #56

Reds INF prospect Edwin Arroyo went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Arroyo is now up to 10 home runs and 33 RBI on the season to go along with a .348/.408/.604 slash line and eight steals. He seems ready for his shot at the big leagues. The only issue is that Eugenio Suarez (oblique) is also at Triple-A on a rehab assignment, and Arroyo has stopped playing third base. That could cloud his possible chance at a spot on the big league roster.
River Ryan

LAD Starting Pitcher #77

River Ryan threw five shutout innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, allowing two hits, no walks, and striking out seven.

Ryan threw 51 of his 84 pitches for strikes and averaged 97.8 mph on his four-seam fastball. He maintained that velocity for much of the game, falling to 96.6 mph by the fifth inning. He also induced 14 whiffs on 35 wings for a 40 percent whiff rate. He did only get one whiff on his slider, which is not ideal, but he had a 69 percent strike rate overall, and his fastball was simply dominant. The Dodgers will give Eric Lauer a start on Monday, but Ryan could push for a rotation spot if that Lauer start doesn’t go well.
Quinn Priester

MIL Starting Pitcher #46

Quinn Priester (shoulder) allowed five runs on five hits in three innings for Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.

Priester threw 34 of his 68 pitches for strikes and induced just four whiffs on 21 swings. His sinker sat 92.2 mph, which is down almost two mph from what we saw last season. The 25-year-old is working hard to return from thoracic outlet syndrome, but he has a 20.25 ERA in 9 1/3 innings across five rehab starts, with a 9/14 K/BB ratio. With how well Logan Henderson and Kyle Harrison are pitching, there is no reason for the Brewers to rush Priester back.
Corbin Carroll

AZ Right Fielder #7

Corbin Carroll drove in two runs including a walk-off single in the ninth to give the Diamondbacks a 2-1 win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Carroll got the D-backs on the board in the sixth inning on a fielder’s choice. The big knock was a few innings later, as he smoked a 105.8 mph single to score Gabriel Moreno to give the Diamondbacks the win. Carroll has now driven in 26 runs while posting a .282/.390/.552 slash over the first 49 games of the campaign.
Spencer Jones

NYY Right Fielder #78

Yankees optioned OF Spencer Jones to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

With Jose Caballero set to return from the injured list on Friday, someone needed to get the boot from the Yankees’ active roster to make room. Jones has struggled to make consistent contact during his brief time with the Yankees, striking out 12 times in just 27 plate appearances while hitting .167 (4-for-24). He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until another opportunity arises with the Bombers.
Spencer Strider

ATL Starting Pitcher #99

Spencer Strider posted a quality start in Thursday’s victory over the Marlins, allowing three runs on four hits across 6 1/3 innings of work.

Strider racked up nine strikeouts on the evening while issuing two free passes. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Kyle Stowers belting a pair of solo home runs and Owen Caissie adding another. The 27-year-old righty generated 15 swings and misses on 100 pitches in the contest — six of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 32 percent. Now 2-0 on the season, he’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he carries a 3.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 27/12 K/BB ratio (21 innings) into Wednesday’s tilt against the Red Sox in Boston.
Ronald Acuña Jr.

ATL Right Fielder #13

Braves’ manager Walt Weiss told reporters after Thursday’s game that Ronald Acuña Jr. was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left thumb.

Acuña suffered the injury at some point during Thursday’s contest. He did undergo precautionary X-rays, which came back negative for any fractures. Weiss also noted that the superstar outfielder was already lobbying to be included in Friday’s lineup. He’s considered day-to-day. It sounds like fantasy managers dodged a bullet here.
Bryan Torres

STL Center Fielder #39

According to Carlos Baerga, the Cardinals plan to promote Bryan Torres from Triple-A Memphis prior to Friday’s series opener against the Reds.

The Cardinals are in need of an extra outfielder with Nathan Church expected to land on the injured list with an undisclosed issue. It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 28-year-old outfielder. Torres has hit .336/.454/.477 with a pair of homers and 16 RBI in 166 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season.
