Buccaneers GM Jason Licht said the team hopes to sign Baker Mayfield to an extension that will make him their quarterback “for a long time.”
Mayfield is under contract with the Buccaneers through 2026, so this isn’t exactly a pressing issue, but if he continues to play like he did last season (4,500-41-16), the Buccaneers’ QB1 could find himself on the receiving end of another handsome payday. Mayfield will be 30 at the start of this season and signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Buccaneers last offseason after throwing for 4,044-28-10 in 2023 during a prove-it year. Mayfield won’t have the luxury of taking play calls from Liam Coen this season, but with several key offensive pieces returning this season, he could be in line for another productive year. Mayfield profiles as a low-end QB1 in fantasy leagues this season after finishing as the overall QB3 last season.
