Bills GM Brandon Beane was clearly blindsided by Cook when the fourth-year back opted to sit out of Sunday’s practice for what he called “business” reasons. Beane said he
was not “fully aware” of Cook’s sudden decision to hold-in after he opted to sit out Sunday’s practice, but added “I get it, I understand it,” when asked about the development. Cook, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, is seeking a new contract before the start of this season and has seemingly been in negotiations with the Bills for much of the offseason. After reporting to camp and participating through the first week, it appears that Cook is now ready to sit out until the two sides reach an agreement on a new deal. Beane didn’t say if he anticipates a resolution to negotiations soon, saying, “Unfortunately, it takes two. And both sides have to agree on what that number is. And obviously that hasn’t gotten there.”
