NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reports the Cardinals have requested to interview Patriots pass game coordinator Thomas Brown for their head coaching vacancy.

Brown spent the 2025 season as the Patriots’ passing game coordinator and helped build a thriving offense around MVP candidate Drake Maye. The 39-year-old was an interim head coach for the Bears in 2024 and has had multiple roles with Sean McVay and the Rams from 2020-2022. Brown is now back on the head coaching radar, with Arizona first to come calling with an interview request.

Jalen Ramsey (wrist) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

It’s an upgrade from Wednesday’s DNP. Ramsey initially played through the wrist ailment in Week 4 and seems likely to continue to do so in Week 6.
Brown will command all attention when he returns
With A.J. Brown's return to practice, Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter believe he will command all attention in the Patriots offense with Drake Maye during his season around under center.

Keeanu Benton (ankle) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

It’s an upgrade from Wednesday’s DNP. Depending on how optimistic Friday’s practice status is, Benton will likely either find himself questionable for Week 6 or pulled off the injury report entirely on Friday.

Rico Dowdle (toe) practiced in full on Thursday.

It’s his first full practice since suffering the toe injury. Dowdle looks to be headed for hard-to-trust FLEX territory with Jaylen Warren crushing in his absence and Mike McCarthy (rightfully) saying that Warren deserves the lion’s share of the workload at the moment.

Kenyon Sadiq (concussion) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

He has been limited twice and doesn’t look close to clearing concussion protocol. It’s become rarer for players to launch a Friday comeback to get off protocol, but it’s not unprecedented. Sadiq looks like he’s on the doubtful side of questionable heading into Friday.

Josh Downs (hamstring/rest) practiced in full on Thursday.

The good news is that it looks like Downs is trending towards getting off the injury report on Friday. The bad news is that it’s hard to make much more than a WR3 case for the receiver given how bogged down Indianapolis’ passing offense looks at the moment.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said they’re going to hold off on placing Deebo Samuel (hamstring) on injured reserve.

The 49ers have a Week 8 bye and thus Samuel would stay on injured reserve an extra week. Reading between the lines, it sounds like Samuel has a chance to play in Week 9 if things go well. Shanahan added that Demarcus Robinson (ankle) could return for Week 9 as well.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Mike Evans (ribs/Achilles soreness) will not practice on Thursday.

It’s tough to get a read on this. The 49ers like to describe injuries with things like “tightness” and “soreness” rather than just calling it an injury. That said, the team labeled Christian McCaffrey with “tightness” while he was in late August and it has not impacted him in the slightest, so speculating here is inappropriate. What we do know is that Evans plays through injuries that would sideline others. The 49ers face the Commanders on Monday night, giving Evans an extra day to get right. If active, he is a locked-in WR2. Stay tuned.

Monroe Freeling (knee) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

It’s an upgrade from a Wednesday DNP. Freeling played 64 percent of the snaps in Week 4 and looks to be trending in the right direction for Week 6 after the Week 5 bye.

Darren Waller (toe) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

He appears to be trending towards playing, though Waller is old enough that we probably shouldn’t count it as a sure thing that he’ll get off the questionable line. Waller would be a reasonable TE2 if he plays against the Eagles on Sunday.

Caleb Williams (hamstring) practiced in full on Thursday.

The Bears’ QB1 is seemingly on track to make his return this week, when his team takes on the Falcons. When speaking to reporters after practice, though, Williams said he does not know if he is going to play yet, adding that he still has a number of tests and protocols to go through before he’s cleared. If active, Williams could end up running a little less frequently than he did early in the year, perhaps playing cautiously in his first game back. Regardless, Williams is a low-end QB1 if he is indeed active.
