LSU’s Jacob Bergeron took care of business in the U.S. Open sectional qualifier held in Richmond, Texas, piecing together rounds of 64-69=133 (-11) to earn at spot at Shinnecock Hills.
During his freshman year at LSU, Bergeron had the fourth-best scoring average on the team but he did pick up an individual win. Speaking of his teammates at LSU, they made big waves today, as Philip Barbaree matched him at 11-under 133 here in Texas to earn his spot, as well. Across other sectionals, Luis Gagne took care of business in Jupiter and recent grad Sam Burns also lapped the field in Memphis. Joining Bergeron and Barbaree from this sectional was Chris Naegel (-10). Notables to fall shy in Richmond include Mark Hubbard, Matthew Wolf, Cameron Champ, Steven Bowditch, Carlos Ortiz, and Angel Cabrera.
