Playing this season on conditional status, World No. 351 Josh Teater authored a 4-under-par 33-35=68 in the second round of the opposite-field Puerto Rico Open to post 10-under 134, up one spot into a three-way T1 with Emiliano Grillo (68) and playing competitor and 18-hole leader Kyle Stanley (70).
If this 36-hole lead/co-lead holds up, it would be the 40-year-old’s first in 193 events. He owns just two career podiums, including a best of T2 at the 2013 Farmers, where he was T3 at halftime (66-70-73-69). Beginning off No. 10 tee, the Morehead State alum, who checked in off three missed cuts in his last four and two consecutive, landed 11 (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation. He squared two bogeys at 15 and 4, outpaced by four birdies at 17, 18, 5 and 7, and eagle-3 at 2, his second straight day carding eagle at the second. The Kentucky native recorded 1.643 putts per GIR with 28 total putts.
