He’ll receive a $550,000 signing bonus. Perez lost a $3.5 million deal with the Yankees after he was was suspended last year for claiming to be 20 years old when he was actually 24. Now 25 years old, he’s not viewed as a plus-prospect. He’ll begin his professional career either in Class-A Dayton or Lynchburg.

The 31-year-old outfielder spent the first five seasons of his minor league career in the Reds organization. He played in the Mexican League during the 2015 campaign, slashing .312/.390/.580 with 20 homers and 70 RBI in 94 games. He makes for a nice depth signing.

Perez, 31, requested his released and could be headed to Japan. He’s never appeared in the majors.
