Fitzgerald Toussaint will fill in as Le’Veon Bell’s backup as DeAngelo Williams recovers from knee surgery.
Toussaint is the only other running back on Pittsburgh’s roster. Of course, someone else will almost certainly be signed. Toussaint has 28 career carries for just 64 yards (2.28 YPC), though he also has decent hands. Anyone backing up Bell has fantasy value as a handcuff.
  • Fitzgerald Toussaint rushed six times for 28 yards Thursday in the Steelers’ Week 12 win over the Colts.
Most of his carries came in the second half as the Steelers tried to run out the clock on Indy. Toussaint has been handling change-of-pace duties for Pittsburgh over the last few weeks. That role hasn’t amounted to much fantasy significance. He’ll go back to third-string when DeAngelo Williams returns from knee surgery, which could happen as soon as next week.
  • Fitzgerald Toussaint rushed three times for 14 yards in the Steelers’ Week 17 win over the Browns.
It was unclear if Toussaint or DeAngelo Williams would lead this backfield in the absence of Le’Veon Bell (rest), and it ended up being Williams, who out-carried Toussaint 23-3. Both will head back to the bench in the Wild Card round.
  • Steelers waived RB Fitzgerald Toussaint.
Toussaint received 17 touches last season. The Steelers are going with rookie James Conner behind Le’Veon Bell, and could be keeping Terrell Watson. Toussaint is 27.
  • Fitzgerald Toussaint caught his lone target for three yards before exiting with a left leg injury Saturday in the Steelers’ third preseason game.
This one was quite the head-scratcher. Toussaint was listed ahead of both James Conner and Knile Davis on Pittsburgh’s latest depth chart, but was barely heard from on Saturday. The injury may have played a role in that, though it was still a surprise to see Davis draw the start over both Toussaint and Conner. Pittsburgh’s backfield continues to be a revolving door behind Le’Veon Bell.
  • Steelers signed RB Fitzgerald Toussaint to their practice squad.
He’ll keep practicing with the team and would likely get a callup in the event of a Le’Veon Bell injury. Rookie James Conner looked raw and undisciplined this preseason, and Steelers No. 3 back Terrell Watson is a practice-squad journeyman.
  • Fitzgerald Toussaint amassed 19 yards on six carries Friday in the Steelers’ preseason win over the Giants.
He failed to reel in his only target of the night. Toussaint drew the start for the Steelers, who were without workhorse Le’Veon Bell (holdout) and expected handcuff James Conner (shoulder). Aside from an 11-yard burst that was aided by a missed tackle, Toussaint was mostly held in check. The 27-year-old plodder carries no fantasy relevance.
  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler cautioned to “not count out” Fitzgerald Toussaint in the Steelers’ No. 2 running back derby.
Third-round pick James Conner suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s practice, and Toussaint is the next man up, ahead of Knile Davis and a few lesser-known others. Toussaint has been with the Steelers since two Januaries ago. A replacement-level talent, he has averaged 2.9 yards on 38 career carries. The Steelers may want to give old pal DeAngelo Williams a call.
  • Ravens RB Fitzgerald Toussaint didn’t see the field in Saturday’s preseason game against the Redskins.
Beat writer Jeff Zrebiac is taking this as a sign Toussaint has fallen behind Terrence Magee on the Ravens’ running back depth chart. Magee has averaged 5.1 yards per carry this preseason compared to only 3.4 for Toussaint. Neither one figures to see much playing time this year behind starter Justin Forsett and complementary backs Lorenzo Taliaferro and Buck Allen.
  • Ravens released RB Fitzgerald Toussaint.
Toussaint averaged a sluggish 3.4 yards per carry this preseason and was benched for the team’s dress rehearsal against Washington on August 29. He’s a candidate for the practice squad. Baltimore will go with a backfield of Justin Forsett, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Buck Allen for next week’s opener against Denver.
