San Francisco native Isaiah Salinda carded back-to-back rounds of 4-under 68 Monday at Pronghorn Resort’s Nicklaus Course in Bend Ore., to earn co-medalist honors with Brady Calkins of Chehalis, Wash., in final qualifying for next week’s U.S. Open.
Joining Salina and Calkins (68-68) in the field at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., is amateur Ben Lorenz of Peoria, Ariz., who shot 71-67 to finish at 6 under and advanced via a playoff with amateur Ty Travis (70-68) for the final spot. Lorenz made birdie on the second playoff hole to book his major debut. Travis finished as first alternate, with Kelby Scharmann as second alternate. The 25-year-old Salinda helped lead Stanford to the 2019 NCAA title and won the 2018 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. He made one start this spring in Brazil on PGA Tour Latinoamerica, missing the cut at the JHSF Aberto do Brasil.

Bronson Burgoon bagged eight birdies and an eagle en route to a 9-under-par 32-31=63 during the Open Qualifier into this week’s Vivint Houston Open.
The Woodlands resident dismantled Woodforest Golf Club on Monday afternoon to easily secure his spot in this week’s big event which kicks off on Thursday morning. Burgoon matched Erik Barnes (-9) for the low round of the day while the final two spots were decided this morning in a playoff. Sam Fidone (-5) and Isaiah Salinda (-5) came out on top of that 4-for-2 playoff with Brian Richey and Sebastian Vazquez falling short. Burgoon has been boom or bust over the last few months. He’s lapped the field by four or more shots in three of his last 17 rounds played but also lost strokes to the field in 10 of those rounds. Perhaps gamers will want to give him a look in a single-round showdown format on DFS sites this week.

Non-member and World No. 1423 Isaiah Salinda (MP-PB-SH) readies for his tournament debut at this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and heads out in Round 1 at 9:28 am local time with Cameron Tringale. UPDATE: Salinda missed the cut by 11 on 8-over 223 (74-73-76).
The Stanford alum is making his fifth PGA TOUR start, all this season, and this is his fourth sponsor exemption. He’s 2-for-4 so far, posting a T33 at the Safeway in his TOUR debut, and adding a 76th- and last-place finish at the Shriners as an open-qualifier. The So. San Francisco native, who turned pro after the 2019 Walker Cup, won the NCAA team championship in 2019 as a senior, and also reached the round of 16 at the 2019 U.S. Amateur (Pinehurst) after being a finalist in 2018 at Pebble Beach GL.

Non-member and sponsor invite Isaiah Salinda makes his tournament debut at this week’s The American Express and plays the first three rounds (NT-SC-LQ) with TOUR rookie Chris Baker. UPDATE: Salinda missed the cut by two on 7-under 209 (67-70-72).
This is the World No. 1422’s third career TOUR start, all this season. In his most recent action 15 weeks ago, he recorded a 76th- and last-place finish at the Shriners (as an open-qualifier), preceded the week prior by a T33 at the Safeway Open, also on a sponsor exemption. The San Francisco native won the NCAA team championship in 2019 while a senior at Stanford, and was a second team All-American. Off The Farm, he reached the round of 16 at the 2019 U.S. Amateur after being a semifinalist in 2018.

Stanford alum Isaiah Salinda will make his first start on the PGA TOUR as he preps for this week’s Safeway Open at Silverado Resort and Spa.
The San Francisco native gets the benefit of starting his pro career in his home state where he grew up and attended college. That might help him solve the riddle of the tricky, poa annua surfaces at Silverado Resort and Spa’s North Course. Salinda played all four years at Stanford and racked up 12 top 10s including a pair of wins, over 37 starts. He sits at 10th on the all-time scoring list for Stanford. Salinda reached as high as 11th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and recently went 2-1-0 at the Walker Cup as he played a part in Team USA’s victory. The 22-year-old may not be in the “can’t miss” category of prospects but gamers should certainly keep a close eye on his results to see how he hangs on the grand stage.
