MCI Heritage Raises Purse

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The purse for this year’s MCI Heritage will grow by $300,000 to a record $4.8 million, tournament officials announced.

Total money for the PGA Tour event has gone up every year since 1992, when it offered a payout of $1 million.

Tournament director Steve Wilmot says this year’s winner will get a check for $864,000. That’s an increase from the $810,000 last year’s winner, Davis Love III, received.

‘Increasing the purse again,’ Wilmot said, ‘should assure us of attracting another strong field.’

The tournament takes place April 15-18 at Harbour Town Golf Links.
