NEW YORK -- Tiger Woods’ dominant British Open victory produced the highest overnight ratings for the tournament since his last win in the major.
ABC got a 5.0 rating with a 14 share for Sunday’s final-round coverage of Woods’ five-stroke victory at St. Andrews. It was the 10th major win of Woods’ career, and his second British Open title. He also won the event in 2000.
It was a 9 percent improvement over last year’s tournament, which was won by Todd Hamilton and got a 4.6 rating with a 13 share.
Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV markets in the United States, covering nearly 70 percent of the country. Each overnight rating point represents about 735,000 TV homes.
