GREENSBORO, N.C. – Even an ill-timed weather delay couldn’t keep Si Woo Kim from the winner’s circle at the Wyndham Championship.
An incoming storm halted play late in the fourth round at Sedgefield Country Club, where Kim had built a four-shot lead with only two holes to play. When he returned to the course more than an hour later, Kim closed things out with one last birdie on No. 18 that gave him a five-shot win and a share of the tournament’s 72-hole scoring record.
Kim became the youngest player to ever earn a PGA Tour card when he qualified at 2012 Q-School as a 17-year-old, and at age 21 he becomes the youngest winner of the 2015-16 season.
“I’m very happy being the youngest winner this year,” Kim said.

Kim is also the youngest Wyndham champion since Seve Ballesteros won in 1978 at age 20, and he’s the youngest PGA Tour winner since Jordan Spieth won the 2013 John Deere Classic at age 19.
Kim nearly entered the winner’s circle last month, losing in a playoff to Aaron Baddeley at the Barbasol Championship. But he managed to seal the deal just four starts later, becoming the eighth Korean-born player to win on Tour.
“After (the Barbasol), I never expected coming soon like this, but I’m so happy winning this tournament,” Kim said.
Kim will now enter the FedEx Cup Playoffs at No. 15 in the standings with a great chance to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship. With his victory at Sedgefield, Kim is now exempt through the 2017-18 season and will make his first start in the Masters next spring.
“My only experience to play a major was the PGA Championship, so I never had any other majors,” he said. “Especially like Masters, it’s dream tournament, dream major tournament. I’m very happy about that.”
