O’Toole eager for first pairing with Ko

NAPLES, Fla. – Ryann O’Toole has never played with Rolex world No. 1 Lydia Ko, but she will get her chance Saturday in the third round of the CME Group Tour Championship.

They will be in the final group with So Yeon Ryu with a chance to set up a Sunday run to win the season finale.

No disrespect intended, O’Toole says, but she doesn’t care who she is paired with as she seeks to win her first LPGA title.

“I couldn’t care either way,” O’Toole said. “Competitive side of me. Just that determination. You see someone at the top, and you go, `I can do it. I’m not going to let them beat me’ kind of thing.”

O’Toole moved into contention Friday with a 5-under-par 67, leaving her at 9 under overall, three shots behind Ko. O’Toole, 29, won three times on the Futures Tour, now called the Symetra Tour, but craves that first LPGA title. She has three top-10 finishes this season.

“This is a comfortable zone for her,” O’Toole said of Ko. “At the same time, who is more hungry? I think I’m going to kind of go with that. Who wants it?”
