SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Perfect weather and a star-studded leaderboard seemed to be the perfect recipe Saturday for a new single-day attendance record at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Officials said 201,003 people walked through the gates for the third round on a sunny, 70-degree day in Scottsdale. The previous one-day record was 189,722 set in 2014.
Outside of auto racing, it was the highest-attended day at a U.S. sporting event.
So far this week, 553,035 people have attended the event, so on Sunday the Phoenix Open will easily break the overall attendance total of 564,368 set last year.
