David Toms was released from a Pittsburgh hospital Friday, one day after a pulmonary scare at the 84 Lumber Classic.
Toms developed a rapid pulse during Thursdays first round. He was taken off the course on a stretcher after playing nine holes and was rushed by helicopter to Pittsburghs UPMC-Presbyterian University Hospital.
Toms was listed in good condition at the hospital and was later upgraded to very good.
According to Adam Young, the director of the David Toms Foundation, Toms was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) ' the same thing that sent LPGA Tour star Meg Mallon to the hospital following the U.S. Solheim Cup victory.
SVT is a general condition, described as a rapid heart rate originating above the ventricles or lower chambers of the heart.
Toms is expected to make a full recovery and is expected to compete in next weeks Presidents Cup. A statement issued by his charitable foundation said that his problem is ‘treatable and curable.’
Mallon had surgery on Tuesday to correct the problem and was released from an Indiana hospital Thursday. She is recovering at home in Florida and has been cleared to begin practicing this weekend.
David is in very good condition. The doctors feel they have found the problem and it is something that is both treatable and curable, according to Fridays statement on Toms web site.
