Green honored at Travelers

If you see green ribbons in the crowd at TPC River Highlands today and tomorrow, think of Ken Green. The longtime pro was in a terrible crash in his RV in Mississippi June 8 in which his girlfriend and brother died, as well as a dog Green once saved from an alligator attack. Green had his right leg amputated below the knee a week after the accident.

The ribbons, which will also adorn the hats of some players, are meant to let people know they can help ease Green’s financial burden by contributing to a special trust fund that has been set up by the PGA Tour. (The address for contributions is: Ken Green Trust, P.O. Box 1811, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32004.)

The Travelers has always been a special event to Green, who grew up in Connecticut. Green once said that winning the event, which is based near Hartford, would be bigger for him than winning the U.S. Open.
