Seve Trophy Extended to Four Days

VALENCIA, Spain -- This year’s Seve Trophy will be played over four days instead of three, it was announced on Monday. The competition between Continental Europe and Great Britain & Ireland will take place on November 6-9.

The new format will feature fourball matches played on both Thursday and Friday, morning greensomes and afternoon foursomes on Saturday and the traditional 10 singles matches on Sunday.

Seve Ballesteros will lead the Continental European squad at Campo de Golf Parador El Saler. That team won the trophy in 2000 while Colin Montgomerie’s Great Britain & Ireland squad took home the title last year.

‘Having another day to play fourball matches will be less tiring and give the players the chance to bring out their best for the watching fans,’ said Ballesteros, who has beaten his captain counterpart in both of their singles matches.

Qualification for this year’s Seve Trophy teams features each of the two captains, four players from the World Golf Rankings, four more from the Order of Merit and one selected by each captain. Qualifying began with the BMW Asian Open last November and will be finalized following the Open de Madrid on October 26th.
