Pepperell gives wedge to fan: ‘Only one I heard clapping’

It usually takes getting beaned by a wayward tee shot to get as much as a signed glove from most pros.

But then again, Eddie Pepperell isn’t most pros.

The European Ryder Cup hopeful is incredible Twitter follow, and as it turns out, an even better on-course follow, as one lucky fan found out on Sunday at the D+D Real Czech Masters.

Pepperell, 27, who finished T-9 in the event, handed one spectator his lob wedge on the final hole because he was the only one cheering for him.

“He told me my ball hit a sprinkler on the last and kicked on and he gave me a clap for my shot,” Pepperell said. “He was the only one I heard clapping so I said, ‘Here you go, you can have my lob wedge.’”

The English pro was apparently ready to move on from all his clubs, adding, “If he’s still around he can have the other 13.”

If word of Pepperell’s club giveaway gets out, don’t be surprised to see a few more people cheering him on the next time he tees it up.
