Tiger Woods competed in his first PGA Tour event as a 16-year-old amateur at the Los Angeles Open. He’s currently the tournament of host of what is now known as the Genesis Invitational.
But despite 16 appearances in this event, a trophy has remained elusive.
Woods was supposed to return to action at the 2025 Genesis, which was moved from Riviera Country Club to Torrey Pines’ South (a course Woods has won eight times on) because of the recent Palisades fire. It would’ve marked his first official tournament since the previous summer’s Open Championship and first since his latest back surgery. But Woods withdrew on Monday of tournament week.
The closest Woods has come to winning his hometown PGA Tour event was a playoff loss to Billy Mayfair in 1998 at Valencia Country Club (moved because Riviera hosted the ’98 U.S. Senior Open) and T-2 the following year at Riviera.
