MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports MLB has suspended Hector Olivera 82 games for his involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident last month.
Olivera will not appeal the suspension, which was made retroactive to April 30. He’ll be eligible for reinstatement on August 1. The Braves put Olivera on administrative leave after he was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on April 13. The team tried to trade him after the incident but couldn’t find any takers. The 31-year-old has hit .245 with two homers and 13 RBI across 30 big league appearances.

Hector Olivera (suspension) can begin a minor league rehab assignment this Friday.
Olivera was suspended 82 games by Major League Baseball in May (retroactive to April 30) after being charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a woman at the Braves’ team hotel in Arlington, Virginia on April 13. He is eligible to return to the Braves on August 1, but David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution says it is “uncertain he’ll be brought back.” Olivera, signed by the Dodgers for $62.5 million out of Cuba in the spring of 2015, owns a weak .245/.296/.378 batting line in 108 career major league plate appearances.

Padres acquired OF Hector Olivera from the Braves in exchange for OF Matt Kemp; designated him for assignment.
He won’t be officially DFA’d until Tuesday when he comes off the suspended list. Olivera’s career has hit the skids following his April arrest for assault and battery. The 31-year-old obviously offers an intriguing skill set but it remains to be seen if anyone is willing to take on his off-field baggage. He’s hit .245 with two homers and 13 RBI over 98 major league at-bats.

The Padres are expected to designate Hector Olivera for assignment when his trade to San Diego is complete, according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
The Braves couldn’t wait to get rid of Olivera after his arrest and subsequent 82-game suspension and now it looks like the Padres can’t either. Olivera is still owed $28.5 million, though his deal will be voided if he goes to prison. Once a promising prospect, Olivera’s MLB future is starting to look bleak. The Braves are receiving Matt Kemp as compensation and will also get about $10-12 million from the Padres to cover the rest of his salary.

The Padres are requesting release waivers for Hector Olivera.
Olivera was designated for assignment on August 2 and assuming he clears the release waivers over the next 48 hours, he will become a free agent. While the Padres acquired the 31-year-old outfielder in a trade with the Braves before the trade deadline, they clearly had no intentions of hanging onto him. Prior to his release, he was serving out an 82-game suspension handed down due to his violation of MLB’s domestic violence policies.

Hector Olivera (suspension) will move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
He’ll first spend the weekend with the Braves’ affiliate in the Gulf Coast League, taking at-bats against 18-year-olds and pitchers who were drafted five weeks ago. Olivera was suspended 82 games by Major League Baseball in May (retroactive to April 30) after being charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a woman at the Braves’ team hotel in Arlington, Virginia on April 13. He is eligible to return August 1, but it’s not clear yet if that is going to happen.

Hector Olivera pounded four hits Saturday in a rehab appearance for the Gulf Coast League Braves.
He homered and drove in three runs as the Braves cruised to 14-0 win over the Yankees. Olivera is close to returning from an 82-game domestic violence suspension and will shift his rehab to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. The 31-year-old has hit just .245 with two home runs across 98 big league at-bats.

Hector Olivera was found guilty on a misdemeanor charge for domestic assault and was ordered to serve 10 days in jail.
The ruling came down on Thursday in a Virginia courtroom. The 31-year-old was released by the Padres last month while in the process of serving an 82-game suspension due to his violation of the MLB’s domestic violence policies.

Hector Olivera has signed with the Sugarland Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League, according to Robert Murray of FanRag Sports.
Olivera was a high-profile signing with the Dodgers two years ago and later the centerpiece of trade to the Braves, but he hasn’t played a game in the majors since being arrested for domestic assault last April. MLB handed him an 82-game suspension as a result. He was later found guilty and ordered to serve 10 days in jail. The Padres, who released him after acquiring him as part of the Matt Kemp deal last summer, are on the hook for the remainder of his contract. The 32-year-old is unlikely to find his way back to the majors.

Hector Olivera’s administrative leave has been extended.
Oliera was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery after a woman called 911 on April 13 outside the Braves’ team hotel in Arlington, Virginia alleging that she had been attacked by the 31-year-old Cuban outfielder. The investigation by the Arlington Police Department is still underway. Major League Baseball is also running an investigation of its own under the league’s new domestic violence policy. This could take a while to sort out.
