Castillo

Castillo made his MLB debut with the Padres this past May but only stuck around for three games. The 26-year-old middle infielder registered a .693 OPS in 435 plate appearances at Triple-A El Paso.

Castillo appeared in just three games for the Padres this season and has been removed from their 40-man roster. The 26-year-old infielder spent the majority of the 2021 campaign at Triple-A El Paso, slashing .287/.326/.366 with three homers and 12 steals across 435 plate appearances.

Castillo was only up for a few days but did manage to pick up his first major league hit and RBI on Sunday. He and and Patrick Kivlehan are clearing out to make room for the return of Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo.

Castillo came off the bench and went 0-for-2 in his major-league debut against the Cardinals on Friday evening. The Padres are missing a plethora of position players due to COVID-19 and contact tracing protocols, so there’s a chance he gets in a handful of games over the next few days as well.
