Bills signed DL Jarron Gilbert off the Jets’ practice squad.
Gilbert looks great getting off the bus (and jumping out of pools), but he’s been an ineffective pro. The Bills will give him a look-see down the stretch.

The Jets are experimenting with practice squad DL Jarron Gilbert at tight end.
With Jeff Cumberland (Achilles) done for the year, the Jets are looking for a blocking, No. 3 tight end. Gilbert was recruited out of high school as a tight end before being converted to the defensive line.

Bears signed third-round DL Jarron Gilbert to a four-year contract with a $740,000 signing bonus.
Gilbert inexplicably fell into Chicago’s lap at 68th overall in the draft after leading D-I in tackles for a loss last season. He’ll likely play the “three technique” tackle position behind Tommie Harris in his first year.

Bears selected San Jose State DL Jarron Gilbert with the No. 68 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Finally, the Bears make a pick. Something of a boom or bust talent, Gilbert was a YouTube sensation for being able to jump out of a pool from an underwater start. He led NCAA in tackles for loss as a senior, so it isn’t like he lacked production to back up the hype. Other than Tommie Harris the Bears haven’t had an effective interior pass rusher in a while, so shooting high makes sense. GM Jerry Angelo interestingly pictures Gilbert as a three-technique under tackle, which is Harris’ position.

San Jose State DL Jarron Gilbert is “rising on many draft boards,” according to Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post.
Lombardi thinks Gilbert could crack the first round. Gilbert can play end in a 3-4 or tackle in a 4-3. It’s hard to imagine him not going in the top 32.

Bears coach Lovie Smith confirmed that Jarron Gilbert will focus on defensive tackle going forward.
Gilbert is athletic enough to play left end, but lacks the necessary quicks to be a true edge rusher in the Tampa 2. Last year’s No. 68 overall pick, Gilbert is buried behind Tommie Harris, Marcus Harrison, and Anthony Adams.

    Bears released DE Alex Brown.
Brown was deemed no longer worthy of his $5 million salary when Lovie Smith announced that Israel Idonije would move from tackle to end. The team also wants to get youngsters Jarron Gilbert and Henry Melton into the rotation. Expect Brown to draw plenty of interest on the open market, though he won’t come close to $5 million per season.

Bears DE Mark Anderson drew the start on Monday night in place of injured starter Adewale Ogunleye (leg).
Anderson, who had a sack in the game, was part of a rotation that included Gaines Adams and rookie Jarron Gilbert. With Ogunleye’s Bears career likely over, the team is in evaluation mode at the left defensive end position.

San Jose State DL Jarron Gilbert ran an unofficial forty time of 4.81 at the Scouting Combine Monday.
Gilbert, of YouTube/swimming pool fame, is 6'6/287. The forty time is insanely good. Gilbert entered the offseason as a projected third-round pick, but his stock is soaring. He’s a legitimate first-round prospect now.

    Jets waived DL Jarron Gilbert.
The pool-jumper loses his roster spot to WR Patrick Turner, who is being promoted from the practice squad.
