Akers and Kendre Miller battled for position this preseason, and Akers ended up being the odd man out. The Saints also waived P James Burnip, WR Roderick Daniels Jr., WR Moochie Dixon, DL Jasheen Davis, DE Jeremiah Martin, DE Omari Thomas, OT Josiah Ezirimand, OT Jonathan Mendoza, TE Seth Green, OG Kyle Hergel and Tyreem Powell, and released TE Michael Jacobson and OL Mike Panasiuk.

The freshman Davis (6'3/253) has earned recognition for his performance early on in the season. Shortly after Wake Forest’s 42-10 win over Old Dominion. Davis totaled 9 tackles (6 solo) and 1.5 sacks on the season opener. He’ll be one to watch for the Demon Deacons defense moving forward and will quickly garner attention within the conference if he keeps it up this season.

Davis is the 48th-ranked defensive end in the class of 2020 and 104th-ranked player in the state of Georgia. The Snellville, Georgia native chose Wake Forest over Penn State, Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, and Colorado State. Davis is Wake Forests’ 11th commit for the class of 2020, all of whom are three-star prospects.
