According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks hope to reduce Jean Montero’s buyout fee to get him into camp.
New York began training camp with 19 players rostered instead of 20, with Montero’s status being why. Spanish club Gran Canaria would need to be paid a buyout fee to get Montero released, so he won’t participate in practices for any NBA team until that happens. The undrafted rookie made a positive impression in Summer League. If Montero becomes a Knick, it’s unlikely he’ll play enough to be a factor fantasy-wise due to the presence of Jalen Brunson, Derrick Rose, and Immanuel Quickley.
