Rangers signed RHP Jeanmar Gomez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Gomez posted an underwhelming 4.68 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 25 innings with the White Sox in 2018, but the 30-year-old right-hander will be in the running for an Opening Day bullpen spot in Rangers camp next spring. If he makes the team, it’ll be in a middle relief role.

Jeanmar Gomez allowed just one hit while striking out three in four scoreless innings of Monday’s 4-3 win over the Dodgers.
Fighting for the fifth spot in the Indians’ rotation, Gomez has yet to allow a run in 11 spring innings, and has posted a 7/3 K/BB ratio in the process. He’s on the AL-only league radar.

Jeanmar Gomez left Friday’s start against the Reds with an apparent leg injury.
Gomez injured the leg making a sliding catch at first to complete a double play. He struck out four over 3 2/3 scoreless innings before leaving the ballgame. Stay tuned for an update on his status, but Kevin Slowey figures to end up with the fifth spot in the rotation if he needs to miss an extended period of time.

Indians’ head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said that Jeanmar Gomez suffered an injury to his hip.
Gomez exited Friday’s game after making a sliding catch at first base to complete a double play. No word on the severity of the injury, but Kevin Slowey would have the final spot in the rotation locked up if he needs to begin the season on the disabled list.

Indians manager Manny Acta said that Jeanmar Gomez suffered a mild right hip strain.
Gomez left Friday’s game after making a sliding catch at first base to complete a double play. The Indians can skip the fifth starter in the first turn of the rotation because of scheduled off-days, so Gomez hasn’t officially been ruled out. Kevin Slowey could still beat him out for the job, though.

Indians manager Manny Acta acknowledged Friday that David Huff will likely have to begin the season on the disabled list.
Huff strained his right hamstring Thursday while pitching in a split-squad game. Now that he’s essentially eliminated from the competition for the fifth spot in the rotation, Acta will have to decide between either Kevin Slowey or Jeanmar Gomez. He is expected to make an announcement Saturday.

Jeanmar Gomez yielded two runs over six innings in a loss to the Angels on Saturday.
It was his first start since serving his five-game suspension, though he was essentially just pushed back a day. Gomez gave up just five hits (including a home run) while fanning seven and walking a pair, but the Indians’ offense didn’t give him any help. He now has a 2.35 ERA and 13/3 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings over three starts and one relief appearances this season, but fantasy owners would do well to look elsewhere for help, especially with a start against the Rangers coming up next.

Jeanmar Gomez has been named the Indians’ fifth starter.
Gomez beat out Kevin Slowey for the job this spring by registering a 1.37 ERA in 19 2/3 Cactus League innings. He could carry some value in AL-only fantasy leagues.
